I bought a slightly larger version of one last year for different purpose and was dissapointed in quality of picture when I tried it as an experiment in a shotgun bore. Its minimum focal distance is listed at 3 cm but it will be likely closer to 4-5 cm (close to 2 inches). Also, the LED lighting is not adjustable so you just get this incredible glare off the metal and can't make anything out.

The one you show link for will not fit in a .22 bore if you look at the details of it. The camera/lens and cable are 6mm (bigger than a .22 bore) but the housing they put around the head is 7mm and since its designed to be waterproof its a PITA to try and dissassemble the two from each other.

Mine worked for about an hour and then it stopped and only flickered. Ended up in the garbage bin along with the vice glips I got from the local Pacific Rim tool (junk) supplier.

I've been looking for one too. Every review I have seen for the "budget" scopes notes poor performance in the barrel and marginal performance in the chamber. It seems like the reviews for the expensive gunsmith quality scope are really good but they are pricey, on the order of $900 to $1500 (check Brownells).

at one time there was an inexpensive bore scope offered by someone, but it was in the 700 buck range.

iirc, it didnt have the 90 degree eye piece.

I use the same thing Calfee does, a quality5 to 15 power jewelers loupe. They are about 25$. It lets you see perfectly into each end of the barrel up to 3-4 inches and does so with more clarity than most bore scopes. IMHO, the two areas near each end of the bore are all one would be concerned with when inspecting for damage or machining issues 99% of the time, especially with rimfire. On hammer forged barrels no rotating or metal removing tool touches deeper than the leade or the crown face.

Lyman has come out with a bore scope for $299 and I saw it at Optics Planet for $270. I haven't read any reviews yet but it might be worth checking out'

Had very good success with hawkeye. Their CS too. I don't think mine would have fit in a 17 barrel. It was .170 with a 90 degree rotating slip on. Wasn't real cheap, $400 I think. Sporters method works fine except I couldn't see the chamber of a bolt action that I did not want to take the barrel off of. So I "needed" a real bore scope to see internal welds for work.

I had this one. With the slip tube.

Anything purported to be both an endoscope AND bore scope probably doesn't do either very well.

The one my doctor used for my last sigmoidoscopy was a lot larger than that!

Hopefully they didn't pick it up from the local import discount store . Imagine, after the exam, hearing your doctor under his breath asking the nurse if the end was on it when it went in. lol

Nope. Patiently waiting. Signed up with Grafs to get an email when they are finally in stock. I think that was back around Mar/Apr.

Me too. I have alerts set up with several vendors. I hope it's at least somewhat comparable to the Hawkeye borescope.
