Cool " GM 77/ 10/22 Conversions "

Log in to see fewer ads
i know there are a few of these GM 77/ bolt action match type bbls
that using a conversion kit can be used in the 10/22 semi's,

am referring to the 16.5" tapered, fluted, blued bbls that are on the
GM site under "internet special"

am curious as to whether anyone who has done this is having a prob
with in-consistancy as to accuracy, esp at 25 yds, with whatever ammo.

if anyone has one, would like to hear about probs getting it to group,
IF any. group sizes, ammo used, etc, pics would be nice, lol,

thanks, all, will be a BIG help,

Rico....

gm fluted sporter

rico,
i have a gm stainless fluted sporter that i purchased for my grandson's build.
it is not a factory second but it was built for the 77/22 action.
it shoots good but i really haven't measured for size.

very nice looking barrel and looks very good with the red spacer kit to fit the 10/22 action.

if you just need to shoot one you can use mine, but i think you are looking at
the factory second for performance.

thanks, Amblerrl,

but i dont think that these "internet specials" are seconds, just that they
are no longer in demand, and posted as such. MAYbe i should have got
the SS version, lol,

Rico....

gm

yes, my mistake in calling it a second. gm i think at one time sold blems but they did not have gm logo on the barrel, just a couple of x's on the v-block cut out.

well I had a new discovery tonight with mine.....It won't cycle CCI SV ammo for crap
nor will it cycle Fed Gold metal match, I think that is what I found in the bag, white and gray box with gold lettering....
Win subs, any Eley, and Aguila match rifle function just fin though.....I couldn't begin to say why though..

Dang Rico, I almost jumped at the chance to post a pic of it again...

FWIW, Chromie,

i guess we dont have "identical" twins. my 77/ will cycle all of my ammo.

i just wish more people would respond. maybe a bit early yet,

anyway, aint gonna worry about it. NOT worth the headaches, lol, the bbl
is ready to go.

Rico....

Rico

Been sittin in the <Crows Nest> watching the crew for awhile so not really new

I put together one of them GM77 barrels on a bandit in early March when barrels were scarce, and yes took some experimenting to dial in.

I ended up tape "bedding" the receiver (it works so I left it), rubber pressure pad 2 ⅝" from adj V, but biggest changes came from slightly widening barrel channel for a slight gap on sides and 1"wide p pad up to top sides of fore end with 5 # down pressure at pad with 21# on takedown. Think that skinny fluted barrel needed a cradle to snuggle into.
On paper sm cloverleafs at 25 and Dimes *or - at 50. On ground squirrels, no misses to 75.

Interested to see what Nemo can do

Yeah, found the Aces when I went looking for your cool √. Still trying to figure how to put them to a single key. No kids in da house to learn me this confuser.

Got a friendly Tool & Die shop close and they checked the chamber and it was spot on. Couple of the gun owners there do some side jobs now and then so they know what they are looking at.

What I did discover was as I lined up the extractor, the bottom flute did not line up square with the stock so the side rib to the right (looking from the bottom) was touching the fore end and getting occasional stringers to the right when warmed up. Relieved the factory P-pad enough to get the pressure I wanted with the rubber pad and it settled right in. Tried to get some closeup pics but no go with my crappy camera.

Got a couple of ッ on munks at 60yd today ♠ ♣ ♥ ♦ 4 ACES

thanks, Aces,
but this is not my 1st 77/ conversion, but the 1st that i cant figure out.
me thinks it is the bbl itself. anyway it is on its way to see the "Wizard".

if i cant get < than 1/4 - 3/8" groups with Match ammo @ 25 yds, then
it is just another 'spensive "tent peg", lol,

Rico....

Hear ya. Might as well throw the peg at the target

Mine is just on a bandit and is my hunt'in plink'in gun. Don't take the expensive builds through the brush. Perfect weight and length for that. Plus got an IR scope on it so its good for day or night varmints.
Weird thing is this one shoots Remmie Yellow Jackets better than I expected. Had a few boxes, just had to try it LOL. Thats what got the munks at 60. Have to put it to paper and see what it really does. Got an extra Bircher DSP stock I might try
OMG!! I'm turning RICO ♠♣♥♦ 4 ACES

Rico, I can't speak for that setup (77 to 10/22) but that barrel shoots amazing on my 77/22 .... it's bedded + 1.5" and free floated from there up. I'm getting honest 3/8" at 60 yards with Fed Gold Medal Ultra Match and 5/8" with SK Standard + ... 3/4" with CCI Std vel .... 7/8"- with CCI SGB ..most High vel shoots 1"+ @ 60yds.
I was thinking about using that adapter to convert my VQ 1:9 twist to use on my 10/22 but was a little skeptical... it sounds like you've had some luck with previous conversions?

yea, 1Shot,

have done a few conversions, but this one particular bbl has not performed
how it should. and it's not just me. others have had a few "probs" as well.

no matter, the bbl has been sent off to the bbl "Doc" for an exam.

cant wait for it to get back here to SEE, lol,

Rico....
