Let's get this out of the way - I am allergic to cat hair.

My wife had a gorgeous blue point Himalayan, Abby, when we met. I suffered greatly, but I would never give her "it's the cat or me". My wife never had children and this cat was her child. She spent $3500 on two surgeries when she really didn't have $3500 dollars to spend. Lived to be 18 years old.

I asked to not have another cat. Her response was that she has always had a cat. A few months later, we had another cat, Aria, another long hair cat, but a rescue. As I get up at 0400 every day, I have to feed the cat before I do anything else.

Aria and Abby:

Purina is advertising a cat food that cuts allergens in cat hair, nearly by half. Might be worth a try..

That's a good strong name for an independent cat Boilerjack. If he was mine I'd pick up a foil pack of Starkist salmon and start working on baiting him into my lap one little pinch at a time. Amazing what a little positive reinforcement will do for a relationship

Saw this this morning and thought of you and this thread...

Yes. But do you think this cat would eat it? She would not...

He's a cute bugger. Cats are fickle creatures. It probably senses you don't really like him or senses your grief from losing your wife. My condolences.

Cats can experience grief also. Cats will walk around the house meowing for friends when they are gone and can be depressed.

I just adopted a 2 years old male intending to make him a barn cat but I couldn't put him out with the foxes and wild cats I knew he would fight with. It took him some time to warm to me but he's playful and he loves attention and to play. He loves to pounce on anything moving under the covers. He's let me wash him and cut his nails but he is not as easy to wash as the cat I had from a baby. He is not as violent as some cats that will bite you to get away from such annoying rituals.

Does your cat scratch at you or does he just squirm away and not like to be held and pet? He may eventually warm up to you if you can hold and scratch him so he knows you are friendly to him.

Like him or not, your wife left you a gift. She left you something to remember her and she didn't want you to live alone. Be patient, I expect he will bond with you in time.

Neuter him. You'll both be happier.

I lost my hammer-headed beagle companion of 17 years and then a half grown, starving stray cat showed up. She earned her way inside and loves laying on my lap and purring. She doesn't claw my furniture, or demand much.

Never thought I'd be a "cat daddy".

He was “fixed” as soon as the vet would do it.

Wow, that is one spectacular cat. I really like unusual cats, and I am seriously jealous. The eye color difference is a huge added bonus.
