Measure your rail. The standard Ruger rail is only 4" long. It's likely the rail you have is simply too long for the 10/22.

what people like chaser are saying is get a rail that doesn't extend beyond the front of the receiver...like the one in this pic that's available from Ruger for $20

https://shopruger.com/10_22-22-Charg...uctinfo/90465/

or you could get a 1/16 allen wrench and remove the rear Williams sight and replace it with the standard folding leaf sight....personally I'd get the correct rail

Ok. Finally able to attach pictures. First pic shows that the rail does not extend beyond the top of the receiver. Second pic shows the type of rear sight thats on the 1022 and how it extends back over the receiver. The only option I see is to remove the sight and leave it empty or put in a blank or flip up sight.

Whoever put that rear sight on there must have never installed a scope rail on the receiver. Not sure what sight it is but definitely not the one that came with the rifle. I'd just replace it with a regular Ruger rear sight or leave it without one.

Indeed you can tap that sight out of the Dovetail... it looks like there is a set-screw/Allen head that snugs it into the Dovetail so back that out first. Not sure on the slotted head but I would remove that as well.

Read this... https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forum...d.php?t=593341

Then you can order and tap this filler in the Dovetail... https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1005883063 It is NOT flush fit.. and will protrude.. no biggie but just know that.

Are you sure? I wouldn't think Ruger would put a rear sight on one of their rifles that couldn't be used with the included scope base installed. I realize the one you have on there isn't the one that came with the rifle but it sits pretty much the same as the one that does. It looks like the same sight that's on the rifle in the picture from toomany1022's but I don't understand why it wouldn't fit if it was the same. You can see the one he pictured the sight stops short of where it would hit the rail by quite a bit.

I agree and question that as well.. does not make any sense.
