Finally Won an ARA Match

Finally won a 6 card ARA match at the Ikes in Lincoln NE. I agged 2245, barely getting past Robert Meade who agged 2237. After the way I've been shooting the last three years this felt good. Now I just have to hope I can keep doing it. A picture of the rifle and rest I used.
I forgot to say Robert shot back to back 2450s. His first target of 1800 let me win.

Congratulations on the win.
Nice looking rest; too bad it's not allowed where I shoot.

congratulations, I know what you mean when you work hard for something that seems just out of reach, then it finally happens.

Congratulations, nice setup! Nice to see that they can still be competitive in bench.
Be nice if they had a vintage factory rifle match as well.

Awesome job! I'm sure you have worked hard with that setup. Nice to see a Martini win an ARA match.

I'm not sure some people would consider it a real Martini. It is the first of 2 that I made. The receiver is 2" longer than a factory one. It is also a 1/2" thicker because of the way I machined for the corners of the breech block. The breech block and trigger group are factory. I have a rebarreled factory MKIII that shoots very well but not quite this good. Wayne

I was going to comment that the barrel looked very skinny. Was thinking the same thing the other day, how easy it would be to just machine another action. Better yet investment cast stainless steel with an easy change barrel system.

Good job. Most have no idea how hard it is to win one of these matches.

The barrel is a straight .880 diameter so a little smaller than a factory MKIII barrel. Now that I have a little experience doing two of them a third would be a little easier but I'm a little too old and worn out to do any more. It was a fun project though. The first one I finished in January of 2011, the second in June of 2015. Wayne

You bring back fond memories. I shot there a couple of times. Once in the predecessor to ARA, BR-50 and again in ARA about 20 years ago. Robert, Mike and Jan, Frank and Jack would come down to Wichita to shoot with us. Fine people.
I shot my Martini in BR-50 to start in about 94-95 and then got a true bench gun. My stock Martini was accurate but would not shoot with a custom bench gun. Congratulations on your win.
