I think I've come up with a useful scenario...maybe.

50 shots at 200 yards, rimfire, whatever setup makes you happy.
22lr, 17 hmr, 22wmr, 17hm2, 17wsm, all brands, all types.
Full benchrest setup, bipod, bags, or one-piece test rest, it doesn't matter.
Grab a chunk of cardboard, about 14 inches by 24 inches,
set an Aimpoint at the top/center, and dial y'er scope up
so the POI is about 10 inches down from the Aimpoint. (5 MOA).

Post a picture of the results with a 12-inch ruler alongside the 50-shot group for reference.

Include a pic of the setup, the box of ammo used, and if you have a chronograph,
the high, low, and average muzzle velocities of the 50 shots.

To avoid having to hunt the entire thread,
in order to find the results with a specific brand of ammunition,
the links below are in alphabetical order by brand name and type.

Example: Brand and type of ammo Link to post

### indicates the best results so far

You can calculate what the results will be at lesser distances by applying the half-third rule.
Half the distance produces a third of the spread.
At 200 yards the 50-shot group measures 9 inches of spread.
At 100 yards expect 3 inches of spread, at 50 yards you'd get 1 inch of spread.
And at 25 yards expect 1/3 inch of spread for 50 shots.
Useful if you are looking to compare the results for accuracy at lesser distances.

For comparison to results at 100 yards, see the 50 at 100 thread.

To review results produced at 100 yards in a testing tunnel see the 25 at 100 thread.

With the plate as a reference I'd say you did about as good as could be done with bulk 22lr.
I see about 4 to 5 inches of horizontal and 7 to 8 inches of vertical.
Between wind and cartridge defects, that is about what I'd hope for from my rig.

Does that mat kill the bipod bounce?

Understood A.
Shoot some more and post them.
The more results there are, the better to compare and discuss.

Here's 50 rounds of GemTech 42 grain Match Subsonic rated 1020 fps
It's made by CCI for GemTech.

455 Varmint, Lilja, Sinclair

Hey...Look what I can do...5 shots at 200 yards....amazing, eh? ;)

It's the other 45 shots that ruin the target. :D

That's the reason why wallet groups don't mean anything to me.
Just another random act of accuracy.

ES of 52 fps covers 5 inches of vertical spread, the rest is me fighting tailwind turbulence. :(

Shot this at my quarterly 100/200yd Match back in March at a neighboring range.

This is the pair of 200yd targets.
10 ring measures a generous 3.75 inches. This is the easier target (largest Scoring rings) that we shoot all year.

Not 50 rounds, but 20 that if overlaid would measure about 3.3 inches.

Smooth

I can't shoot at 200yds at my range due to lack of a berm behind the 200yd target line, and the round can't make it to the 300yd berm without striking the ground which could cause a ricochet. Big no-no at our range.

Today I tried to look up your name on the users list with no success. That's because I thought your handle was jala. Found out it's jaia.
Been making that mistake since day one. Yikes.

Smooth, I think that's the MR52 target (NRA 600 yd target reduced for use @200 yds)? We also use that target in our 200 yd "prone-with-a-sling" matches. Two targets, 20 shots on each for record. Man, I wish I could shoot like that slung up in prone! I think "MikeyP" here on RFC comes close to doing that.

What ammo were you using? As jaia said, that's mighty tight grouping for 200 yds!

Triggershoe

I shot that match (post #747) using a Eley Ten-X that I had 4 boxes left of a brick I purchased a couple of years ago
That brick of Eley is very solid, but not as good as my 3 other lots of Lapua Center-X that I have on hand.

The Paul Bunyan range in Washington has three 100/200/ matches a year, and the 1st one was in March.
We shoot the MR52 as you mentioned at 200yds, and the MR31 at 100. It's the easiest of the 3 targets that we'll shoot all year.
I scored 399-400 20X for 1st place in cool 49° and a bit breezy, but hardly bad conditions.

Then next match was in June, and we shot the Schuetzen 100/200 yd targets which have a 25pt .75 inch ring at 100yds , and a 25pt 1.5 inch ring 200yds
I shot 968/1000 20X for the win in very windy conditions, and I mean debris flying, Evergreen trees whipping winds.

I have no idea how I pulled that off. And I had forgotten my rest, so I had to shoot off some crappy sandbags for my front rest.
However, I was shooting one of my super lots of Center-X.
First target was ok considering the wind.
I was rolling on the 2nd target having a better idea what the wind was doing.
I was all into hold over, until that very high shot, and then that very low shot showed me that the wind was still boss.:)

Last of these Matches is in October, and we'll be shooting the "CBA" target which is a tiny bit harder.

Smooth

Rifle as configured for the match. This photo was taken at my home range, not at the Paul Bunyan range.
Rifle with all of it's parts onboard.

Nope, don't blame the rifle or yourself,
more than likely cartridge defects and MV spread.
Wasn't impressed with Aguila quality.
Chronograph showed hefty ES and close inspection showed cartridge deficiencies.

Go check the Aguila links on page 1 of this thread.
Not the best results or chrony numbers.

Picked up another brick of SK Biathlon Sport 40 grain 22lr rated 1106 fps

455 Varmint, Lilja, Sinclair

Decent ES, but the quartering headwind kicked my adze. :(
Stray puffs would catch me and stir the wind flags just as I'd squeeze.

I need to see how this SK will do with my Shilen cone breach at 200 yards.

Eley Tenex 40 grain 22lr rated 1058 fps

455 Varmint, Lilja, Sinclair

Even after the breeze picked up late in the morning, the Tenex held tighter
than the other cartridges shot under better conditions. With the quartering headwind,
still mis-timed a few shots due to being impatient and not waiting for the the flags.
Decent ES and satisfactory results considering breeze and mirage. Temps in the mid 90's (F)

#748 ·
Al the Instigator strikes again! :D

I'm there and the flags are there and it looks like they are all telling me to squeeze
except maybe that one at 80 yards or maybe the one at 160 yards
or it might be the one at the bench or atop the backer...aw heck...go for it!

Can't blame the ammo when the flags don't agree, eh? ;)

#749 ·
Ok, since it takes you shot by shot to build to 50.....
How was that 10X group looking at 10 shots?

#750 · (Edited)
Crankster, if I get a good run of tight mv's, I can do 2 inch 5 shot groups, when the wind cooperates.
10 shots usually shows a larger mv spread and I end up with 3 to 4 inch vertical groups.
1 fps difference with standard velocity 40 grain 22lr produces 1/10th inch of vertical spread at 200 yards.
30 fps ES for 10 shots means 3 inches of vertical, before wind and ability add to the spread.

2 inches for 5 shots at 200 yards and the half third rule of thumb applied.

0.7 inches at 100 yards

0.2 inches at 50 yards for 5 shots

See how that works? :D

I don't have to wait for a bench at the 50 yard range
when the 200 yard range is usually empty....convenient, eh?

Removed the Feddersen 22wmr barrel from the Son of Fuglie.
and installed the Lilja 17 hmr barrel in order to finish up with the 17 hmr brands.

Used the data in my scope logs to reset the turrets for 17 grain 17 hmr.
3 rounds sent to fine tune the scope, 2 clicks up, 1 right, to match the conditions.

CCI, Remington, Norma 17 grain 17 hmr.
All made by CCI, all CCI date codes on the boxes.
All CCI components in the boxes, just the labeling/headstamp gets changed.

Norma 17 grain V-Max 17 hmr rated 2560 fps
Made by CCI

455 SOF, Lilja, Sinclair

Pretty decent for hunting/varminting ammo.

With CCI made 17hmr, the label has nothing to do with the results.
All that matters is how much attention was given to the machines the day it was made.
Cartridge quality varies during production and the results we get are due to the rimfire lottery.
Are you one of the lucky ones who received a box from the better batches.

#756 · (Edited)
With 22wmr and 17 hmr completed, went back over the 22lr list of results.
Found 12 more types of 22lr to try at 200 yards, that are in stock at on line retailers.
Some are rebranded variations of previously tried 22lr.
Others weren't in stock before and are now.
That should allow me to complete this project by summer's end.

Only things missing are 17hm2 and 5mm rimfire.
It'd be useful if someone added those to the thread.
I don't see me purchasing an hm2 barrel for the 455, to try the few flavors of 17hm2 out there.
Anyone else who'd like to show what their rimfire rifle is capable of at 200 yards, post those results.
More results for comparison is a good thing.

Rimfire at 200 yards has turned out to be quite enjoyable.
Very few folks use the facility so most days I have it to myself.
Walking down and back to hang and retrieve targets is decent exercise.
The real hoot has been with the scoped 22lr pistol at 200 yards from a rest.
I'd of never believed the improvement I've made with my limited abilities using a semi-auto pistol.
At least with the pistol I can blame most of the problems on me,
but with the rifles, ammo quality has been the biggest irritation. :(

#759 ·
Yep, hand loaded competition centerfire is worlds ahead of mass produced rimfire.
Every cartridge is as close to perfection as is humanly possible.
Symmetrical bullet's, fire formed brass, distance from the ogive to the lands is the same.
Try that with rimfire and you end up with...well...what I get with rimfire.
