Spend a little more than you want to when buying scopes. Inexpensive scopes almost always lead to disappointment eventually, usually sooner than later.
I've always been happy with the Simmons 22-Mag 3-9x with the adjustable AO. I have three of them mounted on two Marlins and a Savage and they all seem to hold their zero well. :bthumb:
One of the cheaper, yet excellent scopes would be a Tract 22Fire for $194 shipped. They are an excellent value. Their 3-9X is $194, the 4-12X is $224. Of course you can buy a cheaper scope, but you do get what you pay for.
I just gave away a 3-9x Simmons 22 mag. It came on a used rifle. Don't think much of their variables but their 4X32 22 mag is surprising, Especially for about $35.
Yep put one on my ntm H001M, works just fine:bthumb:
I like AO on a scope,
Some people like a 1 to 1 ratio scope to gun cost ratio. And I appreciate good glass as much as the next person. But for me , and my informal usage, its not worth the money. Id rather have more guns and more glass for that money.
Thanks, guys. I’m hearing good things about that Simmons. Don’t really need that much power on the upper end, but it looks like it will fill the bill. Appreciate all the suggestions.
I like the Bariska 4x rimfire with the 30-30 reticle for $ 17.99 right now at midway. Check them out. I have three of them on 541S rifles, two on 40X sporters and one on a kimber. Don't spend any real money on a scope all they do is allow you to see and make precise shots. If you want to spend any money on a scope do it for your deer rifle after all you use it once a year!
Yes, a Simmons would be fine for plinking and even sufficient for shooting groups until you become obsessed with chasing bug holes. I have a 3-9x Simmons 22 mag on my old Marlin 782 .22WMR and I use it to make humane kills out to 125 yards on small game. I have a Tru-Glo 4x32mm scope that finds its way to a rifle now and again, which is a good piece of glass for the $40 I paid for it.
