NOTES. Finally got around to doing this again. Need to make it part of a regular range trip. Had a 217 2x right after on the other side of the A23/6 target. Too bad our pistol range is limited to ~18 yards I'd be doing the 25 yd match.
I know Dennis is out of town, but maybe I can mention it to him. I know we added 25 yards initially because some members had ranges where that was the shortest distance to shoot.

Maybe we could make a reduced size target to shoot at 15 yards, but uses dimensions to allow for simulated 25 yard scoring. I know they do that with Bullseye targets, but I think the A23 is actually tougher for scoring than the BE target for 25 yards is.

Aaaannnnddd.... IIRC the BE 15 yard target is actually tougher than the 25 yard target when shot with a 22.

Either way, glad to see people shooting. And in your case maybe we should make a new rule. Such pistol require a photo with entry. We trust you with your score, but that pistol is just too cool looking to not photos. I always enjoy all the different hardware on the forums.

Here are the December scores. Dennis is out of town and might give you the fancy chart when he gets back. I'm too lazy to change my stuff and screenshot it, and it won't be the same as his anyway.... so this will have to do for now.

10 Yard Irons

Ynned --Browning Buckmark Std--189.0X
Signmaster--High Standard Victor--233.8X
Mike3838--Ruger 22/45--225.3X
Sg1911--Smith and Wesson Model 17--222.0X

10 Yard Optics

No entries. All you guys with optics lost out on an easy chance of winning the month by not shooting!

15 Yard Irons

Ynned--Browning Buckmark Standard--140.0X
Mike3838--Ruger Single Six Revolver--210.0X
Sg1911--Smith and Wesson Model 41--188.X
Jazzsax8--Nelson 22 conversion 1911--196.3X

It looks like Jazzsax had the X'x, but Mike3838 had a solid score with a revolver.

15 Yard Optics

Rocinante--Ruger MKIV 22/45 Target 5"--231.1X
MManing--IZH-35 with Ultradot--218.X
Jazzsax8--Nelson 22 conversion 1911--221.3X

Rocinante found the unexpected warm day to shoot. Those of us with better weather or indoor ranges better practice while it's too cold for him, he's gaining in scores quickly.

25 Yard Scores

We all slacked off and nobody entered a 25 yard score with irons or optics. Another missed chance!

Eleven entries for the month, and a bunch of others that need to get out and shoot more. Then again, that applies to all of us some of the time.

I'm glad Dennis got the ball rolling on this and set up some rules for entries. I see loads and loads of pistols being mentioned on this site.... we all have to reel in some more entries somehow. Challenge them, urge them, talk trash... there has to be a way to get more of these fine pistols out shooting for score.

Ha, here's a pic. Regarding the distance, If I can get to the range during the week, usually nobody is there, so nobody can kick me off the rifle range for using a pistol. They had problems with people being too tactical/running-and-gunning so they made a rule about it. I doubt anyone would say anything about somebody standing still trying to shoot a pistol with one hand........but ya never know.

Have you needed parts recently and able to find them for your IZH35M? I had two of them. Bought them is 1999 and 2000. Both way more accurate than I am. Once I got the bugs worked out of them, very reliable. They were finicky on ammo. The only ammo I found to work great was the old Winchester T22. Winchester changed the T22 and ruined it for me. Then the Kalashnikov import ban hit and I was afraid I couldn't get parts, so I sold them both and bought a Benelli MP90.

Mine's been boringly reliable. Other than replacing a few butter soft screws, and trapping the dust cover button better, I haven't done anything but shoot it. But yes, I am concerned that if anything breaks or wears out, it'll be a paperweight.

I've only tried CCI SV and Aguila SV, but it doesn't mind either. I have not done any hardcore accuracy testing though. 99% of my shooting is one hand / offhand BE type stuff.

The one I bought in 1999 kept breaking the bolt holdback lever. I have no idea why, but they kept breaking in half. I'll bet I replaced 5 of those things. The other one, no problem, but I didn't shoot it much as it was my back-up pistol and I wanted to keep it as new as possible. If you do ever need parts, you could try Kalashnikov USA which is a fairly new company here in the states. It's possible they could import the parts, then resell to you, but I wouldn't bet on that.

I tried CCI-SV in mine, but that didn't work out at all. Both of mine had real tight headspacing. Something like 0.038. The rim thickness of a CCI-SV case runs about 0.041. Needless to say I had a lot of slam fires. One time it emptied the magazine in full auto in less than a second.

OK, guys, I'm finally done driving across country in bad winter weather, and have managed to post December's scoreboards. Not very many entries this month, and none at all for the ten yard scoped and either of the 25 yard matches but it's no doubt been busy for everyone.

I hope before the end of this month to post a year end overall ranking of every match, and to try with Signmaster Bob's help to maybe break it down farther as far as each gun, etc.

Here's to a good new year for everyone, and may we continue to enjoy our little pastime here.

Later,
Dennis

Many thanks to Signmaster Bob, who sent me the (way more useful than mine) spreadsheet he's been keeping. So I posted a Year End ranking in the scoreboard thread.
Hope you find it useful, or at least interesting. Later,
Dennis

***10-Yd Iron ENTRY***

SCORE: 220-3X
NAME: Signmaster (Bob)
LOCATION: Va Beach indoor
GUN: Ruger Mark II, VQ sear, Clark bushing
GUN SETUP. Stock iron sights
AMMO: CCI SV
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 90-1X/100, 46-1X/50, 84-1X/100 (shot on three)
NOTES: When to crap on the last target. I was kind of rushed for time. Shot another set first @ 217, some 15 yard one handed practice, then decided to squeak in the 220 set.

First time I've shot the Ruger in a while, and maybe rushed with sight adjustments as well. Hoping to improve this one before the end of the month.

yes

Bob & Dennis

Wow, what a great job putting together the scoreboard! Looking forward to a great year ahead with some improvement. Planning to shoot some 25 & 15 yard targets where I am going to dedicate each of my four options to open sights or scope at each range. I have been wasting too much time shooting one at different ranges where I would bet I do not get it dialed in as well as it should be. Might be a couple of extra points for me in this new idea.

Have a great year ahead everyone!

I set up a target at 25 yards and loaded up the Single Six. First three shots were all zeros, so I packed up and came home. Maybe try the 25 yard next time?

Super nice day 42 deg no wind. Love this new set-up with the red dot. Weighs about 49 ounces and has a 2 3/4# perfect trigger for a 1911. Will try this one next time at 25 yards.
