The office said it was -65, and they had us stay in from work that day, afraid some of the equipment might have issues was the reason. The entire month of January was usually -40 or so, it was a cold winter, and us working outside in shifts that often went longer than 12 hours. E of Deadhorse AK along the W side of the Canning river. 89/90

-57F when I lived in North Pole, AK. Doesn't get near as cold down here in Southcentral. Good thing...I'm not that tough anymore.

I was on a snowmobile trip in Aroostook County Maine in January of 09' when they reached a record cold temperature of -50 not included wind chill. I believe it is the coldest recorded temperature ever in Maine. The whole week I don't believe it ever got above -15. A bunch of us rented a cabin for the week. I remember my buddy went in the bathroom when we got there to take a leak and got splashed all over himself because the water in the toilet bowl was frozen solid.

-62, I tell you, you need to be real careful, anything after maybe -25 is pretty unforgiving, throw in a bit of wind and it doesn't take long to get in trouble. But -45 and colder is a whole different ballgame!

Cold

68F sitting on top of USS Nautilus from 11;30 pm to 5;30 am. Mare Island Naval Ship Yard watching a sightglass that hadn't moved in 9 months. Metal chair, A1 suit. Fog rolled in, shipmates bring hot coffee periodically.
