I've also been thinking about 22 magnums. Has anyone used a weighted bolt and springs with a steel receiver to build a 22WMR in a regular 10/22-sized receiver?[/QUOTE]

What host are you using now for the 22mag

Where can a 10/22 17m2 barrel be found and what would the cost be to have a bolt modified for shooting 17m2

I have a Magnum Research 22 mag that I haven't shot yet. It occurred to me that the hangup with a home-brew gun would be the bullet length. We'd need longer receivers. That would be the hurdle for a 22wmr or 17hmr, not the bolt work. Kind of obvious, but it only just last night occurred to me. I've seen 80 percent 22 mag receivers, but I don't want to mess with that, frankly.

I'm hoping to do a group buy on Mach 2 bolts once I get them figured out. I don't know anyone who will modify them for you. Barrels you have to call around. I hope to have that locked down by the time the bolts are available.... Honestly, for me, the best source has been the Trading Post here and ordering blanks and sending to gunsmiths like CPC. I'm hoping to come up with something less involved than that. Stay tuned.
