The disc's look to me to block light from coming in around the front sight. This should be working like the Redfield X-Tube and Unertl Tube Sights.

An adjustable rear sight aperture will give you more light and brighten or darken the bullseye (sight picture). A Merit adjustable is probably the best way to go. Redfield made some but they are hard to find.

The problem with the Redfield SureX disks is all the holes were just too small. Too bad Merit finally went under as they had great products. Also at one time many years ago I had purchased an Unertyl tube sight the issue with those was a half moon sight picture if shooting in enough wind or at longer distance a two step front base helped.
My brother machined many of the front globe surrounds years ago. Problem being is that Redfield’s dimensions varied on the Olympic globe, pretty much had to have sight in hand.

Vintage rifle
H&R M12 International rear, Merit disk, Olympic globe front.
Gene Beecher rest Protektor bags
Score 199-8x
50-3x,50-3x,50,2x,49
CCI Sub Sonic hollow points today conditions not worthy of good ammo

January thaw last few days with temp today of 34 degrees, winds gusty rear quartering at 10-15mph. Cloudy dreary and drippy today. We had snowfall in excess of 24” past seven days in these parts. Busting a path to the fifty in hip deep snow is beginning to wear me down, but cabin fever keeps me going.

David, you have that 64 working well. Very good, consistent targets....

I agree that this time of the year cherry picking the shooting days is a good thing. The different weather patterns seem to come through on an hourly basis around this part of the Southeast.

If you shoot handguns as well as you shoot a rifle, you don't need a very large target......
