Okay, thank you, it seemed like nothing was happening, but I went all the way back to the first picture, and I feel a little better.

VERY nice work there Jay !
If you are worried about tiny knot/pinholes, best thing I have found is very fine walnut dust quickly mixed in a few drops of clear superglue, to create a fine filler 'putty'. Firmly pressed into holes and quickly struck near-flush with a sooth hard tool like a butter knife. Next day sand it smooth and you have a good-as-wood repair that takes finish just like the base wood and adds no false colors.
Speaking of finish, all my walnut stocks have been finished with Woodstocks Elixir ever since I discovered it some years ago here on RFC. Figured b.walnut like yours responds especially well to the mix. And you have the instant option of gloss/satin/flat or anything in between always at your fingertips. Can't beat the speed of finishing, nor the results IMHO.
Good luck as you proceed, hope to see that baby at the Match when she's done !
Cheers,
Bob

Thank you Bob, it will see silhouette use for sure, maybe I'll try for a respectable score in online offhand, will be good practice for sure.

I sure can tell its getting smoother. If the work seems like its dragging on forever, you're probably going at the right pace. Getting impatient and cutting corners is something you inevitably regret.

Thank you for weighing in, I don't know you except for on here, but your stock skills I respect greatly. It's starting to develop that beautiful early Marlin comb spine.

Still shaping, now working the buttstock down to hopefully the elegant shape of bygone craftsmanship.

Did a little more shaping, and fitting the buttplate and tangs, getting pretty close.

Here it is in the fading afternoon sunshine, do any of you see any funky lumps or curves that don't belong?
