My experience with any muzzle device (brakes, flash hiders, etc) is that they are very difficult to clean. Internally and in the gas escape holes they develop am almost tar like carbon residue that resists solvents and requires physical means to remove. Muzzle devices make cleaning the muzzle end of the barrel difficult unless removed from the gun. If poorly made they can touch the bullet as it escapes the barrel and screwup accuracy. This is just my experience and I don't need those devices on a 22 target pistol used for paper punching.

Those brakes do help if you need quick followup shots. But paper targets rarely need a quick followup shot. They do look neat (think space gun!) but I am about performance not looks. You get to choose!

A muzzle brake is a great help in the rapid fire stage of competition.

Cleaning takes time, but is not all the difficult, JMHO.
