So what is the deal with the two different cut outs? Which was used in which Mark series? I have IIís and IIIís and have installed Volquartsen bars in them and these have been removed but I donít know what came out of which series.

Also anyone have opinions on the hammers? I know Mk III have the cutout for the mag safety but other than that is one better than the other or just go with Volquartsen MK III hammers.

The top bar looks to be a factory MKII/MKIII bar. The bottom one is the factory bar used in MKIV's. I don't know if it was also used in MKIII's at some time too.

The older cutout allowed the disconnector to stick down when pushed back against the hammer bushing. (Factory trigger released) The elongated cutout pushes the disconnector up during the same situation. If using an aftermarket or modified factory trigger that takes up some of the pretravel - neither disconnector can get stuck down by the bushing.

Wilcox is correct.

I personally don't like the VQ hammers. They put a big hole in them to make them lighter for a faster lock time. Outside the gun, they do rotate much faster. Inside the gun, friction sources slow it much more than a factory hammer. So some shots it's faster and some shots it's slower. I think the VQ hammer produces more light strikes than a Ruger hammer will as a result. JMO.
