Shot intervals in group shooting

When shooting for groups...what cadence do you follow and is there a limit for group shooting and barrel heating up? I shoot 457 jaguar (among other rimfire) and CCI SV.

If I shot 20, 5 shot groups with 5 second between shots...would you imagine barrel heat would become and issue?

It there a general rule?

Interesting question.., is 20 five shot groups the norm in your area?
Seems like a lot...

For better rhythm why not try using a single shot adapter. You donít have to reload mags and there is no way you could shoot fast enough to heat up the barrel, especially with .22.

No. It was just an example for discussion.

One shot every 2 to 3 minutes, one or two 5 shot groups , cease fire, take a break. Eat and drink, kibbutz, have a smoke, repeat

I use a single shot adapter and probably average a shot every 40-50 seconds, sometimes faster, sometimes slower. Today I was shooting sequins at 25 yards and probably shot every thirty seconds or less when I was in the zone. If I’m shooting a 6x5 at 300 yards I’ll probably go 1-2 minutes between shots if wind is low or is stopping and going. If I’m watching flags and have to rush it or wait, it will be quicker or slower.

I think i might be rushing...i don't time my shots...but I would guess i am closer to 10-15 seconds between shots. And I typically shoot 5 5 shots groups. Switch out my target...review my shooting and saddle back up for another 5 5 shot group.

This is with CZ 457. When shooting my 10/22 build...i bet I shoot every 5-10 seconds.

I shoot pretty fast when I can....but depends on the wind flags.

I use my 5X5 magazines all the time.
My 452 does not like a death squeeze trigger pull, I have a 1.25 pull.
Put cross hairs on where I want on target fast trigger pull like a squirrel is heading
for his hole in a tree.
Aim small ya hit small.

Iím about as slow as molasses in the winter if Iím shooting in a match.

Any other time itís purely my mood and how well Iím grouping.

What are match rules?

Ours has a mix of "rapid fire" (10 shots in 60 seconds) and "slow fire" (20 shots in 20 minutes) rounds.

If you're just plinking, I'd be inclined to try it multiple ways and see what effect it has on your rifle, with your ammo. Would be handy to know if "rapid" has any effect if you decided to use it for competition.

Sunlight will heat up a bolt action .22LR barrel much more significantly than simply shooting it, no matter how fast it's humanly possible to work the bolt, aim, and fire. In other words, don't worry about heating up the barrel from shooting. It's .22LR.
