NRL22 and long range 22 match, March 9th, Sturgis, Michigan

St Joseph County Conservation and Sportsman club in southern Michigan, http://www.conservationclub.us/Home.php, is holding a NRL22 match with a side 22 long range match on March 9th.

On the 100 yd side of the range, we'll run the NRL22 match and on the 200/300 yd side we'll run a long range .22 match. Please go to NRL22.org for info on the organization and to check out the rules and equipment requirements. There is also a list of previous courses of fire you can check out on their download page.

The month we will be shooting is usually released the week before that month begins.

We have a KYL of 8 targets from 2" to 1/4" and various other targets ranging from 22 rifle silhouettes to 12" going out to 300 yds. The long range shoot will be shot prone or off the bench (for those not able to shoot prone) and will be a 50 round event like the NRL22. We will be testing barricade/position shooting also.

Shooter's meeting is at 9:45 on those days, sight in starts at 10:00, and the match at 10:30. Our club does require hearing and eye protection for everyone on the range line. We'll have a heater going in the covered range line so we have a place to warm up between rounds. The NRL22 match fee will be $10 and the long range match will be $5. Youth 16 and under will shoot for free.

Looking like it could be warm enough to thaw the ground. Dress accordingly if you plan on wandering down range during cold range times!

It went well. I'd have to say, this is a great bunch of people to shoot with. Everyone seemed to have a good time, and they were great with handling all the movement safely. I'll try to get a little more written up later, but both matches went well. But as expected in the weather we were having, the 250yds and out stuff was very challenging. Gary

Thanks a lot for setting all that up Gary. Itís a real nice setup. Rimfire heaven. You are absolutely right about the shooters. A great group and itís nice to have a couple of kids on the line. They are both safe and great shooters. The awsome variety of long range targets make it definitely worth the trip. Hitting 10 of 20 past 250 in that mess at the end helped getting through the nasty ride home easier though.

Density altitude

Does anybody who shot on Saturday know what the density altitude was? I am trying to enter the days shooting in my log and I never checked it on my kestrel. Thank you in advance.

When I had ballistic arc do the weather off of Sturgis's weather station before the match, like at 6:30 am, it was a -1042.
