77/17WSM After Market Triggers

Hi all,

This is my first post on the forum and i hope i can get some answers.

Late last yr i got a Ruger 77/17 (18.5" Stainless, Green laminate stock). I haven't had a chance to shoot it much but as everyone knows, it can do with a new trigger.

I looked at Brownells here is Australia. I originally ordered a Jard trigger but it was placed on back order, then discontinued to i changed my order to a Rifle Basix trigger.

This trigger did not work in my rifle. The sear would not sit on the trigger. It would always slide off. I tried to remover some material from the sear to increase the shelf but it didnt help.

I returned this order to Brownells Australia and got a refund.

I them proceeded to purchase a Jard trigger with extra springs. I tried to install this today. I followed the instructions, set it as as desired. I has it set nicely at 1lb 10oz (factory over 5lb). I was happy.

When i went to install the rifle back into the stock, the trigger guard was so far from clearing the trigger and sitting into the stock. I tried everything. There is no way this rifle with this trigger is going to fit and functions with this trigger guard.

Has anyone else had this issue?

I am thinking maybe Ruger has changed the design but i highly doubt this. My second thought is that maybe Jard has sent me the incorrect trigger profile. I am awaiting a response from Jard.

Has anyone else has similar issues with aftermarket triggers in this series (18.5", laminated) Ruger 77/17WSMs?

Try a Rifle Basix trigger. Works very well for me. I had to trim a little wood inside the action area to let the safety work but not much.

Try these folks

https://timneytriggers.com/

Can't go wrong with a Timney trigger, give them a call.

PS Welcome to the forum, it's a great site.

I had two bad experiences with Jard products. The Rifle Basix trigger is just the trigger. To work properly, you need to replace the trigger and the sear. Go Timney.
