RWS 22 magnum range report

Ordered some of the current RWS 22WMR ammo from Anschutz, the 40 gr JSP, nominal velocity 595m/s, about 1952 f/s. Tried it in two rifles, a Cooper Classic 57M, and a Remington 547C. 50 yards, very good conditions, benched. Target shown is from the Cooper. Much more consistent, over 50 rounds, than any other 22WMR loads I have tried. The center two sighter bulls, 1 and 8, are CCI Maxi-Mag 40 gr JHP for comparison. Last 3 bulls on the upper right, threw one flyer that really opened up the groups. The Rem 547C was only slightly better than other WMR loads.

Thanks for posting those targets. Interesting to be sure and every rifle and ammo combination will shoot different. It will be a question if you think spending all the dollars per box is worth the accuracy gained --if any over the current available ammo.

At first look, I was surprised to find the RWS 22wmr is packed loose like bulk ammo.
50 cartridges in a cardboard tray. No protection from bumps or packing weights.
Not even a plastic rack to hold each cartridge individually as is used in the 22lr by RWS.
At a dollar a cartridge you'd think they'd be packed like match centerfire.
Not a good sign...

Looking at the results above, 50 yard groups, I'm not seeing any difference in accuracy
from what is produced by CCI 22 wmr at a fifth of the cost per round.
Oh well, 50 at 200 yards across a chronograph will tell the story, later today.

RWS 22wmr 40 grain JSP at 200 yards...

230 fps ES, 10 inches of vertical spread.
At a dollar a shot, nothing to brag about.
I can do the same with CCI for 20 cents a cartridge.

Oh well, write it off as an educational expense.
At least now I can offer an opinion based on experience.

RWS 40 grain fmj 22wmr at 200 yards

ES in excess of 270 fps and 12 inches of vertical spread.
RWS made their profit from my ignorance.
Now I know, there is no match quality 22wmr,
only close range hunting ammunition.
