Urals Range Report Aliya and Natalia

Well comrads I can hardly get the smile off my face these rifles are shooters!
Now remember I am left handed, shooting a totally right hand rifle,
never shot a peep sight, well maybe 5 or 6 times many many moons ago,
let alone ever a ring front sight, it was 30-32F, light freezing cross wind bursts off Cook Inlett.

I shot a 100 rds thru Aliya for group. 711B and Lapua SK Match.
The whole 100 rds averaged .227 center to center at 25yds with only 3 or 4 flyers.
This rilfe is awesome!
The trigger is one of the best!!
I cant believe I can shoot those peep sights with these old eyes.

I had plans of recrowning, refinishing the stock, etc.
figuring out how to mount a scope without altering her.

Now I think I better just leave her alone and shoot her!!! What fun these peep sights!

Natalia wore a 14X scope that wouldnt adj for parallax at 25
and actually I shot worse I say I because when I finally got up off my frozen butt
and moved the target to 50yds the groups tightened right up so it was the scope and me not the rifle.
Haven't ahd time to measure these groups but will.

Shot 711B, SK and Wolf Match.
Natalia liked the Wolf several one holers at 50.

Natalia is harder to lock the bolt down when closing don't know if it is the sear
or bullet getting engraved in the rilfing, and the stock is really not lefty friendly in the least bit,
and the trigger while not bad at all is not as sweet as Aliya's.

Will never make fun of these girl's heritage again

well now i'm gonna have to pack up the gear

and head to the range today. it was raining yesterday so i didn't make it.
mine has the position stock and before i did anything to it i was going to
see if anyone that has a regular stock might want to trade, as i'm going
to use this as a bench gun if it shoots. there's an older guy here that redoes
stocks into bench stocks on 40xs and 52s i'm sure he could fix me up i just
hate to alter a stock someone might want. it looks more like the stock suhl
stocks. well i better make sure it shoots anyway.

Natasha (my Ural 1 with serial #M-1100) brought back renewed confidence in shooting with precision using Irons.

She's got the Aperture rear on the left side rail
and the circle globe on the front after over 26" of thick barrel.

The sights are perfect and I have no desire to try and add a scope.
She's the only rifle (ONLY ONE) that I have left in the IRONS.

STBE, your report indicates that you have two really nice, accurate rifles.
You're likely to be hard put to decide which is more accurate.
I'm sure you'll be more than pleased with both of them.

Tom C., I'm looking forward to hearing about your range results.
I'll bet your rifle is going to be impressive!

Glad to hear that you got a couple of sweet shooters!
Also glad to hear your comments on the iron sights that these sweet rifles come with!
I believe these rifles are a super bang for the buck.

it's a keeper

i cleaned the bore with jb's and boretech wednesday night
and finally got to the range today. had to shim the scope it
was running out of adjustment and still shooting 3 inches low.
got that fixed took about 25 rounds to get the lube built up.
then she started shooting. i tried old eley/rem club extra didn't
do so well. tried some club extra eps put 4 in one hole then 1 out
the wind was blowing and i didn't have my flags. tried fed 900a
got 2 groups under .2 tried lapua midas L it just shot right through
the wind 2 groups under .250 and the wind was comin' on pretty
good. with a tuner and a better stock and rest setup this thing
will do alright. i'm gonna check the bore to see if the chokes in the
right place, feels good. trigger's as good as my 40x, i would say
probably shoots as good as the 40x and it's got a tuner on it. oh
well alot of time this winter to work things out. i'll get some pictures
of this stock if anyone's interested in a position type stock it's
different than any i've seen on here. if not it'll probably get cut
down and lightened some. it looks like all the lugs are seating good
the handle doesn't look like it's part of the locking system at all
no wear spots on it. well we'll see after the barrels checked it'll get a
harrel tuner then the stock work. i still haven't figured out how to get
the bolt apart i got it out but it don't come apart like the cm2 apparently.
later tom.

Tom, push the knurled knob at the rear of the bolt in and turn.
Be careful, it'll be under spring tension as you let it come free from the bolt body.

I'm not certain which way I turned the knob.

I've only taken mine down once
and the knob will only turn one way so you'll know quickly enough.

To re-cock the bolt I had to use a wrench that closely fit the front of the bolt
and the cocking knob to get the leverage I needed.
(Grease on the camming surfaces helps) It's a strong spring!

olga is a peach of a ural

i scrubbed it out with jb's then brushed and wet patched
and dry patched till it was clean.
i posted the results earlier. likes the good stuff best.
don't they all.
fed 900a eley black box eps and midas l shot very well.
it was windy though i could have done better.
3 things i noticed,
1st i need to readjust the sear engagement, a little too light.
2nd had to put a shim under the rear ring poi was about
3 inches low ran out of adjustment, shim fixed that.
3rd must be a heck of a tight chamber had some old eley club
extra i was using at first to lube the bore with, was a lot
harder to push in than any of my other guns with match chambers.
the lubes pretty thick on those but usually they slide right in.
i'll be going back thursday or friday when the weather clears
and i'll take boris the vostok cm2 along too. he likes the good
stuff too.

boris and olga went for a ride to the range friday

i am so spoiled from flat wide benchrest type stocks
that i come to a conclusion a call to sinclairs is in order
to order a couple of more benchrest adapters. on my
cm2 cadet i bolted one to the handstop rail and it really
works to keep it from rocking and i can concentrate on
the shooting. weather looked great 63 and sunny also
winds were gusty at 15 plus mph at times. with both
guns i would get some nice 4 shot groups in the .1 to .225
range then the fifth would move out. i need a quiet day
or an indoor range to really see what these will do.
i'm sure they will clean up nice. the question is how much
money do you put in one? i think a new barrel and tuner
would do wonders for either of them but you're talking
700-800 dollars. i guess for now i'll keep trying to find out
if the potentials there. it's fun trying anyway. i just wish i
could get a good day. it may take till spring now, well at
least they'll look nice by then. i talked to gene davis about
looking at a ural to see what he thought, i'll have to get
back to him on that. they both like eley eps and fed. um ammo.
wolfe mt and fed 510s don't do as well as in my cadet.

Natalia and Aliya go to the........

Indoor range!!!!
Couldnt stand it any longer been working on the new lefty stock (not near finished) for Natalia
and have been froze/snowed in for near a month already.

So packed them up and headed for the indoor range a half day affair.
They didnt let me down they are sweet shooting rifles!
Longest distance at range is 25m.
Had some Lapua Master and Natalia put them in several one hole 5 shot groups!!!

And this is with a stock that has me standing on my head
almost cause its a very right hand biased stock.

Aliya with her peep globe front sites was also awesome
she has a better trigger pull and a stock more freindly to lefties.

Anyone know how to adjust for weight of pull on these triggers??
There are two screws accessible through the trigger guard.
I just dont want to start turning them and not know which is what.

I may have asked this before but couldnt download a new CM-2 manual
or some such deficiency on my part to figar out the adjustment.

Group's meas will follow.
Liked shooting indoors (no excuses for weather) wonder what my lead blood levels are now??
