Yes...totally strange when I can buy that same scope from Europe, or Australia, or even here in NZ (but 'out of stock' at the moment).
So I really fail to see what effect this ban has on stopping anyone getting hold of a high-power scope.
I have a chance at a good, 2nd hand, Leupold 45x Competition scope but it's a few $100's dearer than the new Sightron.
I think I'll stick with the Sightron!
At 74 I'm fairly sure I'm not aiming to make the NZ Olympic team.
But...if you think the Leupold is way better then please tell me to spend the extra $$.
EDIT: since posting this reply I had a call about that Leupold 45x...and was offered a deal.
Needless to say, I bought the Leupold...but please tell me if I have just made a big mistake.

The L45X is a fine scope, you will like it. I would use it over the Sightron because of the higher power. Probably no difference in how you will shoot though.

Good man Grey, happy 75th and I'm not looking to get on any team either, too old, just interested in my local club comps.

Yes, crazy rules nowadays on import/export worldwide, here in Ireland itís almost impossible to get anything from the States these days and if you do then customs/taxes are crazy stupid.

Sightron are great scopes but I would rate Leopold better, more expensive but 45x over 36 is a major difference. If you got the Leopold 45x within your budget range and a deal, then happy days, they are top notch scopes and it should serve you well.

Best of luck with the new 457 and scope.

Enjoy.

We'll all be waiting on your range report. I think you've made some great choices and should provide you with many hours of fun.

Now starts the quest for ammo and the impending collapse of your credit rating.

Thanks guys.
Rifle is still 'arriving'. I should have it in a day or two as the dealer has sent it off with the courier company.
The Leupold seems OK. Propped it up on a front rest at the 25 yard range and checked the side focus...all good, no problems.
Target showed up nice and clear.
Have about 1000 rounds of .22 just waiting to go 'Bang', so I'm hoping by this time next week I will have a range report for you.
Might even manage a 'piccy' or two for you as well.

It's an 'At-One' CZ457.
Will need to make a dummy magazine (single shot only allowed).
Now just need to figure out a scope.
Can't get lovely glass that USA shooters can, and USA Govt. has restricted exports of high power optics.
But I can get a Sightron sii 36x42 scope.
I 'think' 36x should be 'enough' magnification (?)
Or go China made and get a Vector Optics 46x Minotaur scope.
But I don't know how long a China made scope will last, and that 46x jobbie will cost me over $NZ500 (yes...we get badly screwed here in NZ).
Weaver T36 from ebay maybe? But will be 2nd or 3rd hand and who knows if it's still working OK.
Interested in your thoughts re a scope.
Thanks.

Thanks, but...sadly...US sales only.
I have bought an OEM CZ one though (from the UK).
The UK folks have no problems with selling/sending to us poor folks down here in NZ, so all's good.
How come US sales only? Says 'Shipping restrictions'. Really?
US politicians say he can't sell out of US?
I would buy one of those, because they do look well made.
Might just have to buy a 3D printer myself!

Thanks Gizmo.
Now...Ireland...my family is from that sainted land.
GGrand-dad came to NZ 1870's (ish).
I'm told Culleybacky, and Balleymena gets mentioned too.
I'd dearly love to visit and see the sights that my GGrand-dad knew.
I also seem to have developed an interest in Irish Whiskey.
Must be the heritage coming through!

Good man Grey, I'm down south myself.

An interest in Irish Whiskey you say, why wouldn't you, Old Bushmills Distillery make fine stuff and is a little over 20 miles from Culleybacky. Its in the blood Grey.

Enjoy.
