Stock 149 Walnut Thumbhole

I started on a walnut thumbhole stock. The nosecap is maple. I enjoy building a Thumbhole stock now and then, they'er a little more challenging than a straight sporter. The thing is, you gotta get that hole in just the right spot, or its not gonna be comfortable to shoot. It's got to fit the hand. You can't just drill a hole straight through the stock. I start by drilling a 1/2 inch pilot hole, starting on the right side and angeling up and forward. I use a 1/2 inch hole to start with, in case it's drilled a little off, it can be easily corrected, when you start enlarging the thumbhole.
Here's a few pictures after my roughing in a shapping.

After a couple hours with my palm sander, starting with 40 grit, then 80, then 120, then 180 and finishing with 240, I'm ready to do a little hand sand.

That is a smooth looking stock, cant wait to see the next one, I'm sure it will be as wonderful as all the other ones, 150 just seems to be a lucky number

If that was a fast car the comb would definitely keep it on the ground, I bet you could automatically put your face on that and be lined up on the scope everytime

When I do a raised comb stock, I try to get a good fit with a scope that has a 50mm front Lense. Us old men like big lenses for seeing better.
