Read this thread, then decide. It's a cheap way into beginning BR.

HighDollar-

I think you need to add a front bag to that modle.

OP- It is ok for starters. I did so and eventually had a Greenlaw top made for the base of the unit. You can also pay anywhere from $500-$900 for the premium tops and bottoms, but for starters, you are ok with Caldwell. I would suggest, though, you follow up on HighDollar's link.

Ok Thanks boys. I looked at the Grizzly and think I would chose it over the Caldwell. Some more thoughts were givin ta me and I gotta ask. Dont think I plan on travelin around ta shootin matches but ya never know. I would love ta go see some matches and learn. I'm thinkin most of my shootin would be done at the local club where I'd be usin the same bench and adjustable stool. Sayin that,, what If I bought or built a single piece front rest where I wouldnt be concerned with slop or movement like folks say is in a cheap adjustable rest? Usin only the rear bag to adjust with? Ok dumb question I know but thats what I do best. If I did buy the Grizzly do you accually clamp the gun in with the adjustment screws on the sides of the bag or does the gun just set free in the bag?? Sorry so many questions.

Also what do yall think bout this one.?A little more $ but have heard good things.

I think the Cowan is the best value in a lower priced front rest.

I'll second that. I have one and I think it's a better rest than the Bald Eagle. Just add a sand bag and a speed screw and your ready to go.

If you want to get into serious BR then you will have to pay a lot more $ than them two. I recently started BR with a serious bunch of guys and used there rests a few time's now I realize what a pain in the rear my Cowan is

I used a buddy's Cowan. Was not impressed. Matter a fact I once owned two Caldwell fire control joysticks and they worked really well for the price. Had to do a little replacement of the cheap knobs with some nice car shifter knobs but other than that I enjoyed them a lot more than the cheaper adjustable rests.

OP-

Don't clamp. Make sure you have free movement front to back on recoil, such as it is.
