9422 - Surprise Wood

About 2 months ago I was offered a Winchester 9422 XTR 22lr sight unseen for $250 - to which I agreed to it. I hadnít gotten around to see or pick it up until today. When the fella pulled it out I was pleasantly surprised by the stock grain and condition. I doubled the agreed upon price, he felt like he won, and I did too.

Iíve always been a sucker for nice wood - especially on production guns that arenít typically known for it. And although I wouldíve brought this one home regardless, I likely wouldíve been in a bigger rush to get my hands on it had I known how pretty it is.

That is a beauty! I passed on one at a gun show a couple years ago with even better crotch than that, but the price was in the $650 range. Wish I had bought it ...

Beyond the beauty of the wood , they handle so well and shoot just as well...

Beautiful rifle and at a great price! Those 9422's are quality rifles from end to end and happen to be one of my favorites.

Congrats

I have a stock like that but it is on a Boy Scout commemorative 9422. Interesting that some fancy stocks were put on "regular" 9422s too. I would think they would normally have sorted them out to put on the commemorative models.

2 out of the 3 Boy Scout Commemoratives Iíve seen had real nice wood on them. Iíve seen a handful of ďregularĒ 9422/9422M guns woth wood as nice as this and in some cases nicer. But usually theyíre white strait grained and plain.

I have a couple others and the wood is not only plain on them but quite blonde in comparison to this gun, which is more reddish.

I think that was honorable doubling the 250,yes you still got a great deal on a nice rifle, but the seller doesn't have any reason for disappointment.

My old beat up 9422 that I got from my uncle looks nothing like that! You got the special one right there.
