Good idea. I guess we should just agree to disagree without being disagreeable. I think we both really like the M241 anyway.

Rem. 241

Not sure if this forum is still active but here goes.
I have an older rem. 241 (not a model 24) and have some questions.
here is what I know:
Receiver is stamped Model 241 #8125... nothing else,,, does not say Speedmaster
Serial # on receiver and barrel match #8125
Barrel is 22 1/2 inches in length and stamped RD close to the receiver on the left
it has a steel butt plate and the foreare attaches with only 1 screw
It has groves on top of the receiver for scope these appear original.
Gun is unmolested, never been disassembled, screws show no sign or wear marks
Any help would be appreciated

Your gun was built november of 1957.
Your gun was probably factory grooved as they were grooving them then.

My information states that the Model 241 was discontinued in 1951, and the tooling for making it was scrapped in 1955. I have no explanation for the RD barrel code, which does translate to 1957, but I have never seen or even heard of a factory grooved M241 receiver. I'm guessing it was done by a skilled gunsmith after it left the factory.
The M241 is certainly a fine rifle - one of the all time best .22 semiautos.
