Medicare advantage plan

You get A and B. If you get an advantage plan (like Humana or the best in your area) they get your monthly Medicare deduction. Compare plans for the best most comprehensive coverage and lowest copay.

I will be signing up for Medicare this year, too. As I am a state employee, the state health plan will become my secondary coverage. Luckily for me, a employer workshop is available to help figure this stuff out.

Yes a workshop in the state where you are going to live is a big help. This is very state dependent and I think it would be difficult for anyone to be up to speed on all 51 states

There are also some good on line tools too. The OP's situation is complex though.

If a person does make a mistake in choosing the right plan you can change by moving to another state where the bad for you plan is not available

In order to advise you properly first I'd have to know if your BCBC is an employer group plan and, if so, does your employer employee over 20 employees?

Once these facts are understood, I can verify what part of the healthcare/Medicare regulations apply to your situation and whether or not you need to enroll in Part B of Medicare at this time.

At this point, your State of residence is not a controlling factor since Medicare is a Federal program affecting all States. Your State of residence will come into play if it is necessary for you to enroll in Part B of Medicare and whether or not it would be advisable for you to enroll other insurance.
I know I'm new here, but this is why I already like this community. Somebody with needed knowledge, helping out someone who needs that knowledge, without expectation, just because. I applaud you Bradical.

IO have medicare and an F plan. I understand the F plan is history, costs me about 260/mo.

I see these ads on tv for 'other type' plans at no cost, maybe and they cover dental and optical.. Call the number aand the first thing they want before a quote is name and addy.. I hang up. The supposed plans will also add $144 back ion to your SS monthly payments, maybe.

Anyone using those plans??

Yes. I know of those plans. In FL, this year I'm using an Aetna's PPO Advantage plan and was happy with last year's UnitedHealthcare PPO Advantage plan. With both I get to see the doctors I had already been seeing in GA and FL. Very little out of pocket for my $145 with a annual out of pocket cap of $5000 if there is a health disaster. Also gives me $1000 for dental which I'll use up, gym memberships in GA/FL along with $40 every three months for select OTC products at CVS.

A friend has an HMO Advantage plan with what I get plus they reimburse him the $145. I think that's because his income is low. He hardly travels.

I used this site to get info. https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/medicare and this one https://www.medicare.gov/

Besides using those sites, I called my doctors, dentists, vision centers, gyms etc. to verify with the Advantage plans insurance companies printed and said. Everything they said matched to what the providers said too. Here in FL, this is big business and no company wants a bad reputation.

I really don't know about the Supplements you can buy instead of working with insurance plans. My health is OK and I really don't want to pay more than the $145 with additional supplements.

I didn't get the straight old fashioned government Medicare because I want an annual out of pocket limit so my finances are not turned inside out. After that, I wanted the gym membership, vision and dental to save me some money because I had been paying that out of pocket before Medicare.

Do not give out your name or number to insurance companies while shopping. If you do, you will get calls like you just won the lottery. I don't answer calls from people I don't know so this wasn't a terrible inconvenience.

With Aetna and UnitedHealthcare they call and I don't answer them once I'm enrolled. I don't want their Wellness visits to my place nor their tracking of my health. I'm a free range rooster. My health is my business. If I want something, I'll do the calling.

And the above might only be true for me in Florida because we are a huge market. It's like you wouldn't expect buy goods in Wyoming like you could in Florida. We have so many places in Florida to shop that we drive by places to get to other places. Wyoming might only have a few plans. I know the GA plans are different than the FL plans.

You might be lucky and get what you want. And, the following year they could tweak that plan and you can go shopping again. Just don't give them your phone number or email unless you like spending time with people you don't know.

This is really depressing. I'm 62 and not looking forward to all of this. Right now I'm covered by my late wife's BC/BS. The really odd thing is that my coverage will end when I turn 80.
