Need trigger for Pre-1980 Super Match 54 action

Log in to see fewer ads
I'm getting ready to build what will be a "hybrid" rifle on one of my collection of old model 54 actions. This will be a silhouette (mostly) and offhand shooter. I don't have the original trigger that came with any of the actions that I have. I do happen to have (2) Karl Kenyon triggers, but neither of them would be suitable for this project. (as they both pull well under 5 oz, and I don't seem to be able to adjust them into a useable range)
.
I'd want to be able to adjust up to 2lbs top, but probably prefer 7-8 oz.
.
Any help is appreciated.

I can't help with locating one, but an older single stage trigger (1408-U1 or 1411-U2) may fit the bill. These are the same mechanically, but differ in the factory setting, 500g vs 3lb.

Yeah, that's really a great question. I probably prefer a single stage, but I wouldn't necessarily turn my nose up at a two stage.

I used to have an Anschutz MSR silhouette, and I honestly can't decide if I loved the 2-stage, or if it annoyed the hell out of me.

There is no reason your Kenyon's can't be run at 7 or 8 ounces. I run mine at a pound.

I don't know... Can't get it set that high. When I first got it, it was pulling at just under an ounce.

Do you have the instruction sheet? Start by cleaning and lubing then adjust it.

I used to have the instruction sheet that Karl sent with it - but it was a photocopied thing that looked old when it was new, and the wife pitched it out years ago.

I spoke to Karl about this before he passed. I don't know what variant it is, because I didn't buy this one brand new from him, but second hand. (he knew the whole story, from a super vague description that included little more than what gun it goes on, and which side he stamped his name)

As for cleaning... It is mint clean.

Yes, I miss Karl and our "visits" on the phone, a memorable man.

They don't need to look dirty to need cleaning and lubing. Take it apart (watch for flying springs, you might want to lay a white garbage bag on the kitchen table and take it apart inside that) and clean everything and oil and grease it.

Here, this should help. If you run the pull weight all the way in and its still too light try more sear.

I have a Single Stage trigger that came off of an Anschutz 1413 - 1968 vintage.
I had it set for 10 oz on my rifle. the trigger should adjust up to 3 lbs. altho I never had it adjusted that high.

I replaced it with a 2-stage trigger that I like- Adjusted the 2 stage to about 5 oz.

I have got a few leads here. Thanks to everyone who replied. I have the parts going to gunsmith soon, and he saw this thread. It looks like I am covered.

I may contact anyone in this thread again, as needed. But for now, I am good.

I'm closing this since WTB threads aren't allowed in the discussion forums. Offers to sell aren't allowed here either and that happened too. Sounds like the OP has what they were looking for
