Are Romanian trainers too valuable to drill and tap for a scope mount base? Mounts for the 3/8" dovetail seem to be scarce.

Try 11mm airgun rings for your scope, they might work.

Picked up my Trainer for $80 a couple months ago, so no, not too valuable.

See my thread a couple down from yours. Click on the link in the first post to see the original thread on another forum. There is also another good M69 thread further down the Military Trainers subforum page below mine.

It's not a 3/8" dovetail--that would be too easy--it's some proprietary weird thing. The rings for a 3/4" Weaver scope work well on them, BTW. But I found a clamp-on pic rail that works (see thread). I have also had success with vertically-split rings.

They're not terribly scarce or valuable. It's been a few months since I last looked but I think they were in the $100-$150 range. Muddy stock finish and no scope rail.

I doubt they'd be considered too valuable, but the D&T cost would probably exceed the value of the gun. As I recall the dove tails are very shallow and are tough to grip with any rings. You might consider just Super Gluing a one piece ring mount base to the gun. I did this with an old Rem 513 a couple of years ago and it's still holding. A little tricky to line up and hold steady but worked. Just run a long 1" dowel thru the already mounted rings to help line it up. Super Glue dries quickly so you don't have to hold it long. Of course, clean the gun and mount with alcohol first.

planet optics has a decent rail that converts from 11mm to picitiny that i used on mine - never happier with a mount for being solid and secure - spend some time looking before you D&T but if thats where you end up i think it will make you happy as well , these wont be rare or valuable for another generation or two

Both of my Romy trainers seem like the rails are narrower than 11mm. I haven't gotten happy yet with a scope mount for them.
