Do you reload? What volume do you plan to shoot? The ammo cost savings may cover the cost of a custom rifle in 17 WSM. At that level of investment, Id get a 17 Hornet for the more consistent ammunition.

The early Bmag were not good. The newer Bmag is much more accurate. The bolt is still sloppy but what can you expect for a $220 rifle with SS heavy barrel that shoots MOA? Buy a Boyds stock and youre still under $400.

There is truth in that, RC. But my first generation skinny barreled .17 WSM rifle is very accurate. I use it as my main meat getter, tree squirrels.

I suggest buying a Savage BMAG.

I don't have the time to type the horrible experiences I've personally had with 3 different Savage 17hmr B17 rifles or 3 different Ruger American rifles in 223. All I will say is I will never buy another from either company. In fairness, both companies custom service were excellent but trying to get a decent product was exhausting.
Volquartsen is supposed to be making a 17 WSM in their Summit rifle soon.

I'm not impressed with the 77/17 18-incher looks. It's rough. Shoots good at 50, but haven't pushed it out yet.
