Sport King with extra barrel

I just picked this series 103 Sport King up this weekend. Came with the box, extra barrel and 5 mags. Is there any way to tell if the extra barrel came with the gun originally? The box is numbered to the gun , but there is a yellow sticker over the left side of the label covering something. Serial number is 2022543.

Notice the original price of $75 from Western Auto.

On the two High Standard boxes I have, both have the catalogue number marked on the end of the box, not on the top.
You're looking for a four digit number, likely starting with a 9.
If your gun was a 102 series Sport King, then the two barrel set was catalogue number 9202.
It doesn't seem the 103 series Sport King was catalogued with a two barrel set.

High Standard Sport King 2,022,543 with both barrels in a box with yellow tape over the field on the box and a Western Auto price sticker marked $75.00.

The Sport King two barrel set was last listed in the 1959 catalog and last shipments just after the 1960 catalog was issued in January 1960. The last shipment of the two Sport King two barrel set, catalog number 9202, was February 5, 1960. The two barrel sets did not continue to the end of the 102 series which probably occurred between 1,101,195 and 1,103,039 around September 1960.

The serial number suggests a late 1968 shipment which is well past the time when the factory offered two-barrel sets in their catalogs but this is a Western Auto gun. The Western Auto catalogs do not offer any two-barrel sets.

The tape is covering a yellow field has the word model imprinted and some time they marked the catalog number on this field. They also used a pre-printed tape and a pre-printed sticker to denote the model and these later pre-printed sticker markings were more than just the catalog number. The sticker was yellow with red lettering. The tape was made in two layers. The base layer was yellow with clear top layer with red lettering. It is not uncommon to the layers to separate leaving just the yellow base.

This is a Western Auto sale based on the price sticker marked $75.00. Clearly this gun sat in Western Auto inventory for some time because with a late 1968 shipment and the fact that the Western Auto catalogs did not show a $75.00 price until the Fall Winter 1970 Catalog. High Standard prices for the Sport King were $68.00 in 1968 and $72.50 in 1969. There were no High Standard catalog prices for 1970 as the Sport King production was suspended about the end of 1969 for a few years.

Notice that the change in company logo to the trigger logo in 1967 had reached the barrel and grip insert but they were apparently still using up the boxes which still had the eagle logo. This is not unusual as they did not want to scrap perfectly good boxes.

This pistol was not a factory two barrel set. It started as a catalog number 9201.

Same model of my only HS bought for me in 68 I think. Five mags is a real bonus alone especially if they are factory ones like the OEM's that came with.
