The sharp-eyed will probably figure this out pretty quick.
I think so far we have established that it is a foreign made, right hand 30% gun Sako of some kind.

As promised, here are a few pics of my meal(s) prep from yesterday.

I made a large pan of tomato sauce with meatballs, pepperoni, pork, and lots of garlic! (no pics of that). With the help of a gal pal, we made beef stew, roasted veggies, individual meals containing a pork chop, mashed sweet potatoes & veggies, a large frittata with sausage and zucchini and a beautiful stuffed meatloaf that was stuffed with spinach and mozzarella cheese!

UMMM! Good.

71 and pouring. I got in the house from mowing the whole place just as it hit. Finished PT and Thought I would not get to mow. Threating looking but jumped on mower. Sprinkled a few big drops and I kept going. Wind got up and turned so dark up lights came on.

Did get supplies for tomorrow. Lowes is a zoo. Begging for workers.

Fred and I have these as secondary cameras and security. They are good. Look at what comes with them. Ordered me one for security.

Well done Rhody.

Just saw my first yellow finch.

Some Yooper counties are putting vax orders on hold with the UP averaging 41% fully jabbed. That went over like a fart in church. Some big summer events are cancelled, with more coming I suspect, until 2022.

Too many food and partial gal pal helper photos! I just had stuffed peppers and it still made me hungry.

A Browning High Power Safari grade 222 Rem. They used Sako L461 actions for these, but they were made by FN (Browning) and this one has a nice Claro walnut stock and the 24" "heavy " barrel versus the 22" pencil barrel.
Made in 1959 near as I can tell (first year) and interestingly, it has "microgroove" type rifling instead of normal 6-land Ballard type.

I've always wanted an older Sako in 222 and I've admired the Browning Safari grade rifles with their unique 2-step barrels since I wore husky pants as a yute, so, this was a best of both worlds aligning of the celestial bodies.

Now to decide on a scope from among my vast hoard (it came with a vintage K4 Weaver which is a nice enough scope, just not for this rifle).

I’m stopped for the night in New Mexico.

The truck is running great.

I’m averaging just over 20 miles to the gallon at 70 miles an hour.

My eldest brother had a Sako Vixen in 222mag. Purchased from another buddy as a forever rifle. With an injury and unable to work it was passed on to another friend. Always wanted it but was never offered to me by brother. Still would like the opportunity if given the chance.

A K6 with a 1/4 moa Lee dot would fit nicely.

Holy Frijoles! Nice resolution in those photos.

One of the great things about doing that cross-country trek on wheels instead of wings is watching the transition in topography as one leaves east Texas for west Texas and the jog across New Mexico.

I need to go back and find the itinerary/map you posted. I just recalled a great place to park and explore not far from Silver City.... but I expect you're further north than that.
