Pre 81 BLR .308 opinion please

My dad has a pre 81 308 but of course has lost the magazine. Since they are so rare, a replacement mag is about $300. So is the gun worth buying a $300 mag or better to put the $300 towards a new rifle? The only other thing I know about it is that it's an O model. Thanks!

Welcome. (Your question might get shifted to a sub forum, as it does not pertain to rimfires. I also suspect that few of us are familiar with the BLR or the significance of an O gun. I know a lot about Brownings in general, but next to nothing about that model)
The questions to be asking yourself: Where can you get a nice, replacement 308 rifle for $300?
What is the rifle worth without a magazine? What is it worth with a magazine?

I have two of these fine rifles. The quality is very good and cannot be had these days. Keep it and buy the magazine off eBay. Shoots great and has a unique bolt action locking lug via lever action. Best of both worlds.

I have a BLR in .308 that was built in 1975, serial #O4990___. I had a magazine when I bought it and was able to get another magazine from a Canadian company for around $60. This was around ten years ago. .243, .308 and .358 all use the same magazine. I would buy it. Great rifles.
