Hello All,
I'm lucky enough to have Clint Beyer and Beyer Barrels in my backyard. I had him make me a barrel in .17 HM2 for an AR build. As you all know, it's no easy task getting it to run safely and reliably as close to 100% as possible.
The upper is Nordic, Beyer barrel, CMMG bolt and collar, BCM charging handle. The recoil spring was custom made by gunsmith pal of mine. He has a setup on his mill to make them.
The lower is a Mega with Timney Calvin trigger and Magpul stock.
Well, I'm on my way to getting this sucker running like a sewing machine.

17HM2 (AR15)
Very curious about this. The link to the video seems to be broken. Can you put it somewhere else? I think this would be a fun little plinker.

I'm going to put at least 500 rounds through it over tomorrow and Thursday. We want to see how the spring holds up. I'll take some more pics and video document function and accuracy.

I have ARs in .22LR, .17HMR and .22WMR, but the closest I've gotten in .17HM2 is a Nordic chassis on a 10/22.

So, yesterday I got to put 120 rounds through it.
I had no ftf (with Black Dog mags), out of battery issues or anything else. This thing just plain runs. No peening or any other premature wear issues observed either.
I took a Burris XTR scope off of another rifle just to see if this would group. The groups at 1st were no better than 2" at 50 yd. I was kinda shocked and disappointed.
My gunsmith pal then asked how well I'd cleaned the barrel before testing. Cleaning? Sure I ran a bore snake through it😬. Truth be told I was more concerned if it would even run.
I just smiled as he took the gun from me and ran several patches of Remington 40X cleaner through it. Yes it was far less than clean...opinions vary, lol. But the results were obvious. The last group of day (6 rounds) on the left is definitely showing promise.
Another thing I learned is that that this will not feed with CMMG mags or one other brand I had. Only the Black Dog Machine mags feed 100%.
More testing to come tomorrow. Sorry, I work mid and I finally needed to sleep, lol.

Man I wouldnt mind converting my.22 into an HM2. Maybe Ill contact Mr. Beyer. What are the chances of you getting another spring from your gunsmith pal? Be happy to pay you for it.

I'm interested in messing around with the HM2 and I'd sign up for a spring as well if your buddy wants to make a few of them.

Today I put 100 quick rounds through it. The video shows 45 of them. Attached is a pic of 89 recovered shells. There are 2 that show some pressure signs. This makes a total of 350 through the gun and 200 since cleaning. Not something I'd normally do but this is for science, lol.
You'll see on one of the mag changes that it didn't want to chamber fully. I'm guessing due to being dirty as I later fired that round.
All in all, I'm absolutely stoked on the progress so far. I'm going to put 1000 rounds through it before I say this is safe and reliable.

Puh-leez! It's not like he was shooting at steel plates with a danger of ricochet or tannerite in a gravel pit. He would have a better chance of getting struck by lightning that have that AR blow up in his face due to a ruptured 17 HM2 case.
