Exactlly right. From what I'm reading, the OP needs a class in Bearcat 101. The half cock loading notch is maybe the best thing about them. No fumbling like the Single-whatever series.....

I bought a New Model in '94 and after about 150 rds it would lock up if I held it at certain angles while cocking it, whether loaded or unloaded. I sent it back to Ruger and they replaced about half of the internals. About 50 rds later I notice that the cylinder latch was not working, no matter what the hammer position was. Broken spring. I didn't feel like messing with Ruger and had my LGS fix it. It sure messed up my impression of Ruger revolvers being indestructible tanks.
