We have plenty of time to wait for your range report.
I am crazy in love with my CM-2 Cadet.

Thanks for the salute. When I get to be an old geezer I will be telling plenty of war stories and totally understand how the "war story" became a rewarding past time of vets. There is a sense of having lived something way bigger than one's self and having belonged in something way bigger than one's self. I remember still the quote at the beginning of Oliver Stone's book "Platoon" (and movie):
"War is man's greatest adventure."

Disability Rating

Lost my colon and left shoulder in line of duty.
I'm a forty percent disabled veteran - Line of Duty.

In 1993 while still on active duty, I was almost referred to a Medical Board.
Because of a suspected heart problem - ergo cycle anomaly.

My near brush with the Medical Board prompted me to reconsider my physical state.

I was in good condition.
But, my body was showing signs of the wear and tear of military service.

As such, while retirement out-processing from the Air Force in 1994, I filed for
disability based upon numerous injuries accumulated over my years of service.

In 1997 I received notification from the V.A. that my service connected
disability request had been granted at twenty percent.

After some consideration, I decided to appeal the decision.

Instead, I was advised to Refile.
I did. And my persistence brought results.
My disability rating was upped to thirty percent by 1999.

Re-re-refiling, eventually, the outcome was
an increased rating to forty percent in 2001.

My point, if you are denied a service connected disability rating -
refile ... re-refile ... re-re-refile ... etc.
And, you do not need an attorney.

Eventually, a military doctor will recognize a legitimate claim.

Right now Fort Lewis and Scott AFB and Fort Leonard Wood are involved. I can't believe the process is what it is. I have incap pay due since a year ago and still haven't been paid. Yes they take me back into the hospital each time to operate but I am about ready to apply for food stamps. Lost my house and my wife and I are separated. We are doing fine now still working on our marriage which we believe is more important than our economic loss and struggle. I am renting out a small basement area in Edwardsville IL keeping my sanity and wits about me. Guns guitar and girl (wife) are the three Gs keeping me upbeat so far.

Bureaucracies to Navigate

Moreover, you need to apply with the Social Security Administration
to see if you qualify for disability payments.

You maybe entitled to Workman's Compensation.
Go to your unemployment office and speak with the Local Veterans Representative.
The Vet Rep should be a disabled Veteran.

If the person at the Unemployment Office is not a veteran,
get a referral to the nearest office that does have a veteran on-staff.

Your business at the Unemployment Office should be able to be handled
by phone, on-line, by fax or mail. Your physical presence is not mandatory.

Also, each county has a Veterans Representative.
The job of the County Vet Rep is to assist ex-GIs, such as yourself,
to navigate the bureaucracies (VA, Army, Workman's Comp, Social Security).

The local V.A. Office in your area should also have a State V.A. representative.
Once again, his or her job is to assist the ex-GI to thread the maze
of state and government agencies that maybe able to provide assistance.

Get in-touch with these personnel and get them to start working your case.
Their assistance is not a give-me ... You earned it.

Funny thing but I like my rifle having USSR stamped on it and take that stamp with a certain pride. That union dissolved in 1989 but left behind some real quality products here! Doubt we'd find anything measuring up to this quality today anywhere.

First one they sent took 16 days. The replacement was sent on the same day I called to complain about the first one, but I'm sure my tone had something to do with their speed. Second piece took four days to make it from TX to MD.

I woke up late this morning. I'm beginning to get like Martin Sheen in Apocalypse now in that hotel room in Saigon. Day is night and night is day. Not drinking though (like Sheen was doing for real in that film!) but with the IV drugs my whole sleeping pattern is way out of whack. I feel like I am waiting for a mission and for my sins they will give me one....
