Lilja makes one of the best 17 cal centerfire barrels you can get and since these 17 WSM's shoot the same or similar bullet, I'd go with a Lilja barrel.

Yeah its pretty much firmed as the favorite at this stage, long order time the only downside where I live

and yeah the AE 20gr is listed as discontinued but there is plenty of stock at the moment

Why 1 in 9. Most now are 1 to 8.5 or 8. Lots of testing has been done and the faster twist seems to be way to go.

My first model BMAG WSM skinny barrel has the 1/9 and shoots both 20gr and 25gr really fine.

just reading a few rebarrel stories plus a mate changed to 1:8 meant the 20gr no longer grouped as well but the 25grs did.

I guess I see 1:9 more optimized for the 20gr and I want to shoot the flatest best energy carrying projectile out to 200.

I put a Lilja 1-9 on my Ruger WSM and it's very accurate.

Steve you weren't happy with the Ruger Barrel?

What length did you choose?

I tried a new trigger, crown, bedding and even bedding into a new stock. I could not get rid of the first shot flyer from the Ruger factory barrel. First shot was always 3-4moa away from the main group, which was decent. Leave the rifle sit for 15 minutes and the first shot was off. Not a good trait for a rifle you want to get the first shot on a magpie or skunk.

I went with a 24" .920" straight barrel, I like heavy rifles, it's bedded into a Boyd's Pro Varmint.

These were the first 25 shots from the new barrel, 1-5 in the middle. 100 Yards

Cleaned and reshot a couple boxes of ammo it liked on the above target. 100 Yards

Are the flyers wild or do they land in the same area each time?
