MKIII/MKIV magazine interchangeability please

Howdy, this has probably been asked many times but please bear with me. are the MKIV and MKIII standard and 22/45 mag bodies the same? Is it just the baseplates that are different? In other words, can I put mkiii 22/45 baseplates in MKIV mag bodies and have them work? AND can I simply swap baseplates between MKIII and 22/45 and have them work? Iím getting my first MKIII (non-22/45) and I donít have many mags for it n

The only difference I have found between the two are the base plates and I have swapped them out and shot my guns with no problems.

Cut the trailing edge of your base pad down so that it's flush with the back of the magazines and you can then use them in your Mark III and Mark IV 22/45.

Summarizing:

1.MkIII and MkIV metal frame gun magazines are identical.

MkIII 22/45 and MkIV 22/45 magazines can be used in MkIII and MkIV metal framed guns by changing the baseplate.

MkIII 22/45 magazines can be made to work in a MkIV 22/45 but modifying the base plate or exchanging it for a MkIV 22/45 baseplate.

Thank you. Will MKIII/IV mags work without modification in the MKII?

I don't know but I don't think so. The MkII used a "heel clip" magazine release that held the magazine in place under the base plate so MkII magazines didn't have the notches for the 1911 type release that MkIII/MkIV magazines do.

I don't know if those notches would interfere in the MkII.

In my MkII Standard, my Ruger OEM MkIV mags (blued and chrome) load and cycle just fine, no hang ups with insertion or removal!

I can put a MKIV magazine in my Dad's old MKI, but taking it out requires some finagling. Will function though.
