"New" JC Higgins 103

Hi, guys. I joined a while back because I was looking for a bolt .22. After chasing a guy locally for a couple months, I just bought a JC Higgins 103, which I understand is a Marlin 81. There's no serial number, so I understand it's '68 or older. It came with an old scope on it, and the little feed clip thingie over the chamber appears unbroken.

It's currently in jail (I'm in California, so I'll have to wait 10 days), but here are the pics the seller sent me before I bought it.

Thoughts, comments, questions are welcome.

Hey, nice find! That looks in great shape. I would have grabbed that in a minute. Those old Marlins are generally very accurate. I see it has a Weaver D4 or 6 on it nice little scopes that match it. Enjoy it.

Thanks. I didn’t pay a lot of money either! What’s more, when I picked it up and shouldered it the first time, I was pleasantly surprised at how large and heavy it is. I recently bought a Marlin 15YN and I have a Marlin 60, and I was expecting an adult size rifle, but not something that.... I don’t know the right word. Substantial? Only down side I can see is that I live in a city so there’s not really much opportunity to put it on a sling and walk through the woods with it!

Solid and adult sized. Thats what I like about old, vintage rifles.

Substantial - strange concept in our current plastic throwaway world. Enjoy when you can.
