Ew.... Awwwhhhh
Don't tease us with such talk. I want to see a sample! That would be great news to see Ruger throw some support behind the cartridge as an alternative to savage.

I don't need one, but I'd sure like to see it happen.

It was in a thread six months ago that it was a possibility this summer. Haven't heard anything else. Was supposed to be a predator version.

I've been waiting to hear more about them myself. I remember the thread that mentioned the owner of Whitakers talking to Ruger about it. They said it shouldn't be a problem to get some made. Maybe they will do a pre order to get an idea of interest in them? I have a savage mk2 heavy barrel but wouldn't mind another hm2. It's my favorite squirrel round. I want a 452 but can't see paying the prices they are asking for them. I have heard good things about the Ruger Americans so sign me up.

+1 for the Ruger American 17hm2.
If it doesnt happen by the end of the year I will convert my 22 lr American to 17hm2 with a Redman's barrel liner.
One way or another, were gonna getcha...

I think with the end of the CZ American in 17hm2, there has been a building pent up demand out there. I think if Ruger makes batch runs of these every few years, they would sell very well.

ELEY getting back into the game is what will get the ball rolling for the firearm manufactures....IMHO.
I plink with the new production run Hornady at it will hold around 1" @ 100m. The ELEY will do .75" @ 100M.
I will have to keep stretching those last few bricks of ELEY. They are dynamite on late season squirrels.
If Eley started production again. I would buy a house note worth.

I have about 2200 rounds of eley and I only shoot to make sure I'm sighted in or at squirrels. No target practice or wasting any. I did see a post on here about anschutz and cci are teaming up for a new rifle in .17 hm2. I'm sure it will be a fine rifle but at their price point it will be too much for a lot of people to spend on a hunting rifle.

Agreed, we need the price point of any new production 17 mach 2 to be competitive with a cheap 17 hmr to get people really interested in the round again. A Ruger American Predator and a compact model would be 2 excellent platforms for Ruger to test the market again. Marlin would be a good one to come out with one in the Stainless varmint XT series but I think Ruger would probably be the most widely accepted since all the issues at Remington/Marlin. CZ needs to get off their butt and offer an accessory barrel for the 455 series. rc

I have not looked at HMR, as I dont own one, but I have seen Hornady M2 as low as 6.99 a box and easily found in 8-9 dollar range, and I bought several bricks of it at the 9.00 a box in the fall of 2015.
Eley, I wouldnt hesitate on it at 12.00 a box, but would stack it high at 10.00 a box and if it were 7.99 a box? My wifes fine china that has never been used, in the 6 years we have been married. Would find a new home in the attic😁

Yes R.C. the Ruger American will give people an accurate cartridge in a very popular rifle at a $3-400 price point most people can afford. I paid $5 a box for all of my Eley hm2 from sgammo.com back in 2011 when I bought my Savage. Haven't had a split case or anything and it's as accurate as mid range .22 ammo.

bbarnes,
I think Ruger can do better than that. I think they can put these out for $250 to $300 to compete head to head with the savage mark II without all the problems inherent in that companies products. While savage makes an accurate rifle, their magazines suck, and some have light strike problems. As far as Eley jumping back in the game.... I don't think so. Not unless the caliber takes off like crazy. While for most people the cheaper mach 2 would do everything they need, many have bypassed the round just because it's not available commonly at Walmart.

The one Whitakers was getting Ruger to make was the compact threaded barrel version I think. I think it was the one without iron sights. They are a little over $300 I think. Maybe $350?
