Accurate subsonic round?

Log in to see fewer ads
I am struggling to find a sub 900 FPS round that is consistent in my Henry H001 and Marlin 39D.
I am shooting bench in a vice style rest at 20 yards.
I have run CCI long CBs (710 fps, 29 gr), CCI qiet-22, CCI suppressor.

all 3 are giving me very inconsistent groupings at 20 yards.
I will get 2-3 "groups" in a 12 shoot group, with a flyer thrown in.
The total group size, excluding the flyer or 2 is about 2-3",, that is at 20 yards.

Any suggestions of what to try next??

Thanks,
Slack

why not CCI SV? Guys in my bullseye pistol league are getting 1" or less groups at 50" from one handed pistols. Granted they are the best in the state, and nationally ranked, but short barrels, and one handed.

+2 on giving the CCI standard velocity a try. I have never had a gun that didn't shoot it well. A little faster than what you were looking for but still subsonic. Another round that has surprised me with good accuracy is Gemtech 42gr subsonic round.

+3

For the money there's not a more accurate subsonic round than CCI SV....not that I've found anyway.

Don't sound to me like its a ammo issue... Maybe the guns or the rest set up? I have never fired a .22 round in a iron sighted long gun that would group that bad?

The standard SV are just to loud, I find the rounds under 900FPS are much, much quieter.
What is odd is both guns are giving the same results.
I am going to give both guns a good cleaning and going over.

I will try some of my SV I have laying around and see if that makes a difference.

But my end goal is to get these guns settled in with a 1.5" group at 50yards using a sub 900fps ammo.

Those are very poor groups at that range, from any ammo. I would look for an equipment problem. CCI Quiet should do what you want.

In my experience, that slow stuff that you like is not consistent. Don't expect more than it will deliver--in your guns. Perhaps someone will chime in and say the sub-900 fps ammo does great in his gun, but I doubt it. In my Mossberg 146, one of my most accurate guns, CCI Longs and Shorts would group three or more times the size of CCI SV groups. Quiet and Suppressor were not anything to write home about either.

CCI SV 40gr, Gem Tech 42 gr, Fiocchi Subsonic 38gr. All perform about the same, by which I mean they perform well. Some guns prefer one bullet weight over another, for spin purposes. My 10/22 likes CCI MM 36gr, hates MM 40gr or AR Tac 40gr. My Mossberg 702 and two Rossis hate the MM 36gr and love the AR Tac.

Buy better ear protection if needed/desired.

And 4X? I do pretty well @ 50yards with 6X, but I would consider that the minimum magnification for that distance, if you're shooting for groups. Consider that 4X @50 is like 12.5 yards with iron sights.

I have played around with the quiets and suppressor offerings from cci.

In two cz 452 Americans. The best I can get is [email protected] Which is fine for close Qtrs stuff, as both those rounds are quiet out of long barreled bolt guns.

Just a thought......might the accuracy deficit be from the bullet staying in the barrel longer due to slow speed? That would require near perfect fundementals and follow through to not negatively impact poi. Just a thought.

CCI Quiets Segmented @ 710fps shot great, sometimes, and other times didn't make it to the target @ 20yds.. Squibs in my CZ 28.6" barrel were really quiet!
I took one apart and there's very little powder in the Quiets. With such little powder CCI QC should be greater but......?
