Ya got some trigger time in. How'd the 597 work before winter hit?

This one worked ok with HV rounds.

Might be time for a deep clean with particular attention to the extractor after shooting Aguila, and some thin oil on the cleaned recoil guide rod springs for ease of cycling in cool temps IME Al. JMO of course Mine's worked well with subs below freezing but not that close to zero.

Thanks scrubbed with break cleaner light coat of Mobil one, wiped off, prior to range session. New extractor installed recently. First firing with Aguila. 22’s are finicky! Still, better than 10/22’s I shoot in Winter.

From the little bit of info gleaned from a couple other RFC AK members I gather ammo is a bit hard to get up there also. That said you might be better served trying to find, trade, beg, borrow, or steal some CCI-SV or other ammo with a less dubious reputation.

Most Aguila ammo shoots well in my 597 but I need to do a deep cleaning afterwards. It does have a "unique" scent to it too.

Cheers.

Thanks. Managed to buy three boxes blue box at Walmart mart over the weekend. Hoarding SV and green tag for M41 in bullseye pistol matches.

Federal 711 seems ok in this 597 in warmer months. Rem Golden 40 gr functions ok as does mini mag 40.

Apologies, bit of a brain fart here, if possible, try some of the greasier type ammo like RWS, SK and the like for colder temps as its less prone to flaking off etc. which isn't good for the 597. I'm in a bolt action mode now so the preferences are less pronounced for me albeit I've switched to RWS sshp for a bit more accuracy over Eley's newer white box sshp stuff for executing squirrels. Even some of Eley bee's wax, tallow, ammo has gone flakey on me when it dries out.
You do any small game hunting?

Well thanks. Do a bit of snow shoe hare from timid to time locally. As far as 597, will keep shooting off hand, malfunctions are fine. For Appleseed, in winter, CF works fine. The bolts shoot fine too, mostly offhand at steel or bench at distance. Hope you like my range report.

Ditch the oil and try Hornady One Shot.
