Let me start by saying I don't normally buy bulk ammo. Running low on lower priced ammo for some of the kids that come over. I don't mind them shooting a group or two of high dollar stuff but I don't get carried away with it. Anyhow, The wife is always on the lookout for cheaper .22 ammo. She called yesterday and said Walmart had four boxes of federal with 325 in each box for $17 a box. She said they would let her have three so I told her to get them. She came home with two. Two other people showed up to get ammo while she was in the process and she gave one of them a box so that all three had ammo. ( I told her she was just too darn kind)
Anyhow, I didn't expect much and I shot it this morning. I shot Five, 5 shot groups with one rifle and then shot five more 5 shot groups with a different rifle.
This ammo is auto match which I don't think anyone has ever brought over here before. The lot number is F105V03 which I think is probably the only lot going around right now or at least common. If my math is correct this ammo is $2.61 a box. I understand some rifles may not like it but I am two for two with it. I recommend that If you are not looking to shoot into the 2's and 3's all day long that you give it a try. My smallest was in the 3's and my largest was in the 6's. Average of both rifles was in the high 4's for the 50 shots. $2.61 a box ammo!

$17 a box is about a pre-pandemic price.

Just yesterday I did a casual back deck 50yd 'bench' session with my Savage c/w an old Tasco 20x and pre-shortage Automatch. I consider it plinking ammo and at this point I consider myself an 'experienced' plinker.....
I have a very nice, locally made NRL swinger target down there (love that thing!).
It took me a while, got 1/2 dollar sized swinger hits at first (arggg) but I settled down after a while and finished off with 5 of 6 shots on the dime sized swinger and only 2 of 6 on the next smaller one. Im sure some of my shots buzzed by close just didnt connect. Thats my story and.......

I shot some of in in my MarkII pistol(pre Obama) and it was good 25 and 50. I've heard quality has suffered post Obama. I have some but havent shot any of it.
The Pre Obama wasn't real good in my rifle.

Automatch can be very good or terrible. Depends on which lot you get. I have seen it so bad I threw several hundreds rounds in the trash can. But that was back when ammo was cheap and available everywhere. Some lots are good.

Has anyone bought any of this particular lot and shot it. I suspect that it has been what is going around at Walmart! Was very surprised at those ten groups. Buy some of that lot if you see them, try them out, let me know! I'm never pleasantly surprised at bulk ammo. And I have never put much stock in lot numbers of cheap ammo, but it is what it is!

I had good luck with AutoMatch for a long time but recently I get about 10% failure to fires with it out of my Black Mamba and Mark IV 22/45. It does fire 100% from my revolver but that has a much harder trigger pull.

I stopped buying it and switched over to CCI Blazer for bulk ammo.

I shot less than 100 rounds of it but I had no failures in that amount.

i really like automatch, the case wall thickness is thinner than blazer 21. as automatch will dent when placing in a 10/22 mag if care is not taken.

Both of my Victory pistols and my 617 love AutoMatch. It's my bulk ammo of choice.

I’ve had some lots that would shoot in the 4’s consistently at 50 yards. It’s my bulk Ammo of choice too.
