Any good Crow recipes? At-One

In a previous thread I went on an extended rant about accuracy issues I was having with my 457 At-One and it's lack of pillar bedding. I apologize for the accuracy rant at least.
I have not installed pillars yet but it appears I may have eliminated the vertical stringing in the rifle and today it was a fine shooter.
What I did....I cleaned the chamber and barrel very well. I didn't lap the barrel but considered it. I just used M-Pro-7 till barrel and chamber were squeaky clean. Inspected with bore scope. I also tore the bolt down and cleaned it. There was a lot of oil in the bolt from factory. I polished the striker but no modifications to the face of the firing pin. Reassembled everything. Action screws at 30. (Thanks to Rick Baum for the 457 bolt sticky)

Went to my local outdoor range and shot at 50 yards with rear bag and front Rock BR. Warmed up with 25 rounds of SK Standard Plus to swab the barrel and zero. Appears that the vertical stringing is gone, not just reduced but really really reduced, like gone. My idea was to start with lesser ammunition and work up to my better ammunition. So started with SK Standard Plus.
Shot four groups of 5 shots. Worst group .78 with a high flyer (.41 without it). Best group .217". Average of 4- .39 with the flyer.
Then SK Rifle Match 4 groups. Worst.655". Best .28". Avg .42"
SK Pistol Match 2 groups. Worst .28". Best .22". Avg .25"
Lapua CX 2 groups. Worst .59". Best .47". Avg. .53"
Overall average .399"

10 rounds were shot before scoring when switching ammunition.

I also scrubbed the barrel and cleaned bolt on my Tikka T1x this morning and duplicated the shooting routine with it. I won't quote all of the figures but it's worst was. .90" and best .21" (oddly both with Rifle Match). Overall average.412"

So I apologize for all the rant and bad thoughts I had for this CZ 457 At-One. Will it become my favorite? Too soon to say. I have several great shooting 452 and 453 CZ's and a great Anschutz and the T1x....but never say never. I'm going to keep working on this one.
I'm also going to send an apology to CZ.

All measurements were OtO- .22"

Nice work fwood! Glad the sticky is helping folks.

I have a 457 American that suffered from vertical stringing as well. That rifle was the source of what little 457 bolt tuning knowledge that I have. Problems can be frustrating, there's no doubt in that. They can also be the muse that leads us down a path of knowledge.

That SK Pistol looks real promising! Keep after it and happy shooting!

Rick

PS.. If you or anyone else stretches their C-spring while working on their bolt.. Since CZ doesn't have replacements available yet, you can substitute a C-spring from a 455/452. The ejector and holder from a 455 will swap directly over as well.

Nice job and it’s good to be humble.

It makes you wonder how many guns get mislabeled as duds because the puzzle wasn’t solved.

I hear crow is best in a pot pie, if you have enough of them.

It should be easy to find a recipe on the web.

I guess you could do them up like a Cornish Game hen, or deep-fry them like quail, but I think the pot pie would be best.
