540x target and 540xr

Does any one know what the size is of the dovetail on the receiver for scope mounting ?.It is an odd size as nothing made today fits it unless you use the rings with the loose metal plate on one side .

I believe it is a 3/8" dovetail. I just put a set of BKL rings on mine. I also have a set of Warne rings coming. Warne is supposed to be able to do either 3/8 or 11 mm by flipping a piece. The BKL seem good but possibly a bit too tall for my use. Take a look at the attached pictures

what ever the size , DIP doesnt have one that works .He sent me the largest for an Anschutz and it didnt work .I have some BKL on order . I tried these Hawke Sport Optics 2-Pc Adapter, 3/8" to Weaver Rail but they are not big enough ether with out spreading to the point you can see the aluminum starting to crack down the center .

The BKL rings will need to be spread open a bit but are designed to do so. Follow the instructions included with them and they seem to work well. I haven't shot the rifle yet.

They also have interchangeable shoes for 1mm or 3/8"

I have 3 guns they all use Burris or Weaver standard tipoff rings. No problems

On my 540X I've used standard Weaver tip-off rings. At one point I had it D&T for Leupold bases but took them off when I mounted Redfield aperture sights. Occasionally I'll mount a scope using Weaver rings.

What i wanted was a DIP type picatinny rail that would slide on and lock down but they have never had a 540 in hand to get the dimensions of the dovetail on the receiver .

They had the 541, but that receiver was tapped and the 540 is tapped on the barrel. I was using a Redfield 3200 first.

I don't understand what all the runaround is about. If the receiver dovetail is factory then it is 3/8" like thompson has stated and a 3/8" mount set of rings should fit it. If they do not then it is not factory cut and there is no telling what it is. Measure and see and then get a rail with a lot of adjustment to make sure it fits. JMHO

These have the standard 3/8" dovetail found on US grooved receiver. 22 rimfire rifles.
Rings made for this dovetail fit fine.
