I am new to rimfire competition although i am an old retired duffer. i picked up a nice Anschutz Match 54 with an Unertl 20x scope. Nice glass but not quick adjustment between distances and pretty awkward because of its length.

Do folks use these scopes for silhouette or is it best to just get a more "modern" scope that is variable and easier to focus at different distances?

Thanks.

Mike

Just my opinion... the modern scopes are better in many ways. But the old Unertl's are great scopes and won't penalize you at that game. If you wish to go more modern, be aware that the Unertl is very collectible,a nd not worth less than about $600. They are worth a lot more to some folks, based on the asking prices I see.

Edit to add, I's say for silhouette, the most compelling reason to go with a good modern scope would be variable power.

A 20x Unertl, 3/4 tube, 1 1/2 objective, calibrated head in 90+% condition-easy $800.

1 tube, 2 calibrated head, - 90% + condition ~$1000.

If you have a Programer, $2000. and up depending on condition.
