Mauser 45A with checkered stock ?

Mauser 45A has come up for sale. Speed's book makes no mention of these with checkered stocks. Is there any chance this could be original?

It's really beat up but it would be interesting to have a rare & original MAS 45 variant...

Interesting. It has all the features of my Mauser/MAS 45A (walnut stock, hard rubber crossed cannon buttplate, etc.). . . . . .except for the checkering. The checkering looks "Mauser-like", but whether it was done before leaving the factory is a puzzler.

There are so many variations with these MAS45s it wouldn't surprise me if the checkering was original. I've never seen one with a checkered stock but who knows what could have happened at the Oberndorf factory before it was cleaned out then demolished. If the price is right I'd say buy it.
I own 3 of these interesting rifles and each one have something different from the others.
