Scope base/ rings for an izhmash cm-2?

Log in to see fewer ads
I have an izhmash cm-2 cadet with the stock peep sights that hasn't been shot in a while due to failing eye sight ( being/getting old sucks.) I'd like to put a scope on it so I can take it out again. A couple years back I bought an 11mm pic rail adapter for it but it never fit right, so the gun got shelved again. Was just curious if anyone found a base adapter or scope rings that will fit it, or could point me towards something that will?

On the getting old, yes it is not for cowards. But the alternative is a r4al killer. No sure what the to of the cadet looks like, I have a 7-2 Baby Biathlon. Do remember having trouble getting rings for it, but maybe a different set up. I just bought a M^( Romanian Trainer. I understand it has a really narrow odd duck type place on the to of the receiver. Not sure if it was every meant to be scoped or if there is just a way to make one work. I have read the rails in the top vary in size, so once I get it I will start looking at air rifle rings (Pyramid Air for one). They go from 9.5 mm to 11mm in some of them. And even if getting old is not fun, keep getting older.

I used B-Square Dovetail to Weaver adapters combined with Warne Maxima 200M rings on my Cadet.

B-Square has discontinued the adapters but Hawke Sport Optics makes their identical twin. They have the squish slot in them to squeeze down to grab the funky sized Izhmash dovetail and still be centered, similar to how BKL mounts work except much lower (BKL mounts have always been crazy tall). https://us.hawkeoptics.com/adaptor-b...to-weaver.html

Pyramyd Air carries them but they are presently out of stock: https://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/Hawke...aver_Rail/4162

Optics Planet has them in stock though: https://www.opticsplanet.com/hawke-s...l-adapter.html

These are the rings: https://warnescopemounts.com/product...matte-rings-2/

The low rings in combination with the adapters worked well with an old Sightron Series II 4X16 AO scope, I think it has a 42mm objective but I just can't remember exactly and I'm too lazy to dig it out to find out.

Optics Planet has the rings too so you could order both and get the over $49 free shipping gig: https://www.opticsplanet.com/warne-s...ish-41650.html

I used vertically split offset dovetail rings on my Izhmash CM2. I used offsets because the dovetail was only machined on the rear of the receiver. If I remember, the Cadet is machined along the entire receiver, so you could probably use regular rings. This is very similar to what I used: https://www.brownells.com/optics-mou...857-79093.aspx

Beware the "squish slot". Yrs ago I bought a BKL-254 MB for my rear rail only CM2. After snugging it down on the rail I found that I could not get the rings to line up. It had splayed open and the rings holes never lined up right.

I honestly don't recall the brand of mount I bought but they weren't anything special.
Maybe someone can tell from my pics.

Dumpty,

I have a chance to pick up one of these rifles but have held back due to the fact that it doesn’t have a rear sight and I have been unable to find one and had the same issue with the rings. Would you be interested in selling yours? My bad eye luckily isn’t my shooting eye!

If you found a solution to the scope mount I would like to know as well.

Seems that it is a nice little rifle.

I tried Barska rings, they look a lot like them too but just barley don’t fit. When tightened all the way they don’t secure down.
I am new to this forum thing, I don’t know how to add a picture.

I was thinking of trying these. It might be easier to accurately remove a small amount of material from each half to make them fit without compromising the alignment.

Well I ordered a set of rings from eBay. Just a set of decent looking cheap-os ( think I paid $40 for them). Before I even had a chance to test them on my rifle a friend came over with a brand new cz 457 and a scope but no rings. So of course I gave him the rings, they worked well on his rifle so I ordered another set. Still waiting on shipping for the new ones. But sorry I'm not going sell the rear sight, it's something that I'd like to keep with the rifle.

Figured that may be the case, just thought that I would ask.

I have tried various other dovetail rings and am yet to find a set to fit......
If the ones you ordered work out I would love to know.

Are you planning on removing the front sight? I removed the set screw but it seems as though it was pressed on or adhesive was used.

Yeah there's a great thread on here about how the front sight is glued on. As of this moment, I'm still second guessing myself on whether I should take it off. I figure I'll leave it on until I can find a decent set of rings and see if it bothers me through the scope. Then I'll make the final decision.
