New idea for scoping 9422!

Log in to see fewer ads
I just had a thought on an option for a small, relatively cheap scope to mount on a 9422. If any of you are like me, I've been wringing my hands trying to find a scope that is small enough and light enough to put on a 9422- all the 3x9's and most of the 4X's are just too big IMO- they seem way out of place on this rifle. Browsing through Cabelas last night I noticed a receiver scope mount w/ scope for a SKS. It is a 4x30 scope for $50. It's only 7 inches long and weighs 7oz. Don't know about it's quality, but all the other scopes I've been looking at have bee 10+ inches and 11+oz. You could by the set up, detach it from the sks receiver mount (it's just in rings) and stick it on your 9422.
What do you think?

Leopold makes a nice compact 4x rimfire scope that would fit a 9422. Burris also makes or use to make a compact parallex adustable 4x scope. Both of these scopes are small and won't overpower the 9422. They also offer quality construction something you may not find in a $50 scope.

Sachmo is right....the Leupold 4x is hard to beat in a quality optic. If you still want something that's smaller find one of the old Redfield 4x's with the 3/4" tube. Very light, very small and proportionately perfect for a gun the size of the 9422! About 75 bucks, used!

If it's a Leepers, stay away from it!! My son bought one for his AR-15 and it was junk.

Save yourself some grief and purchase a good quality scope as mentioned above. You'll be much happier.

Small Scopes for M9422

athappyhiker,

IMHO, here are some scopes you should look at for your M9422 for plinking and hunting:

Simmons 4X28 w/Rings MINI 22 Mag Rimfire: ~ $31.

Simmons 4X32MM w/Rings 22 MAG Rimfire: ~ $31.

Weaver Classic™ Rimfire RV4X: ~ $120.

Leupold 4X28 Rimfire Special: ~ $200.

Avoid Cabelas...... Prices are too high.......

Avoid Sportsmans Guide...... Mostly Chinese Junk.......

Big Mike- you put in the Simmons 4X28 22 mag compact as one potential. I also looked at that scope but I'm wondering what the eye relieff is on it - since it's so short, will I be able to get a good sight picture with it mounted normally on a 9422? Do you (or anyone else) have any experience with it?
It's the smallest of the 4X scopes I've found, and the price is right, but I can't seem to get any real world feedback on it other than the reticle lines are a tad thick.

Except for the Simmons, I like Big Mike's choices...especially the Weaver and Leupold 4X models. I'm tinkering around with an older Leupold right now (trying to figure out best way to mount) that I bought for $50. I think it's going to be about perfect. I also have one of the Nikon Prostaffs...wonderful piece of glass but too big for a 9422. I trying to figure the best way to keep the Leupold "small" on that lever receiver. Any suggestions?

Lightbulb Weaver TO-10 Base

6Bucks,

Mounting a scope low on a M9422:

Use the Weaver TO-10 base [adapts 3/8" grooves to 7/8" Weaver rail] and a set of Weaver DTM [Detachable Top Mount] 1" Low rings with your scope of choice.......! !

WEAVER TO-10 TIP-OFF WIN. 94/22 Base @ ~ $5.00
[ Image is not correct for TO-10 ]

Weaver DTM 1" Low Rings @ ~ $15.

Big Mike- Where you from?

Hey Big Mike- I noticed you list Upstate NY as your home. Where abouts? I'm originally from Victor- small town outside of Rochester. I live in VA now outside of D.C. but I miss the open land, hills, lakes, and snow of the Finger Lakes region.

I am goin through the same problem. I am workin with on of those Nstar scopes. Not that I really wanted one but it was the only scope I could find that looked ok on the rifle. So far it seems to be workin ok. Only had it out once or twice. Had to send the first one back. If this one craps out I'll try the Simons.
