Found a used government target model at a lgs today they had 399 on it. I asked if they were stuck on that price he said he would take 350. It has the box and papers including unused warranty card, but no test target.
I offered 250 he said no, am I wrong here or is it still worth 350 without the test target?

Oh yea it does look like brand new.

That was probably a blued model and not SS.
If really nice, well worth $350. SS usually sell for more.
Great guns. Go back and buy it.

The 6 7/8th inch bull bbl on that model is about perfect, IMO.

Back when they were new I couldn't find one at all so I bought 3 10" models and cut the bbls back and re-crowned them. I meant to keep at least one for myself but after a few years I let the last one slip away. All had Clark triggers and smoothed/polished innards resulting in about 1 1/2 - 2 lb triggers. Safe triggers.

Sure wish I had one of them back.

Don't wait for the weekend. Try to tie it down somehow!

Me too! I think this model in a Mark II is the best one Ruger built.

What I recall is that there was the initial offering that rapidly sold out. The demand was such that Ruger came out with a second, much larger run of them with different S/N prefix number. Would be good to know which run the one FS is from as that probably will affect value.

Ruger

I bid on one a few years ago at an auction and quit at $600.00 No box or papers

I think it sold for $750.00 in which the buyer still has to add 15% in fees

I am in California (fruits and nuts) so these do not show up very often.

I would get it now or put it hold !!!!

Does such exist? A blued gov't 6-7/8" slab-side? I don't believe I've ever seen (nor previously heard of ) one. Most interesting. (I use a SS one for casual, small-bore bullseye.)

I'd buy it at that price even without the test target. Sounds like a nice pistol.

I think by SS, he meant Stainless Steel.
If it's a Slab Side, it's not a GTM. It's a CTM

Ruger government model

I have one that I believe came from the initial product run. Bought it new and still have the box & test target so you can tell I've been around firearms for a long time. Used it for Hunter Pistol silhouette among other things. Hands down the best 22 pistol I have ever encountered. Will never sell it and would buy another if I could find one. If it's in good condition for $350, my advice is buy it. Run, don't walk.
