597 hammer install

Log in to see fewer ads
I just received a new Volquartzen hammer for my 597 yesterday. So today I did the install. I had never been in a 597 before or even seen how it is made but wow. This was a piece of cake. It took all of 10 minutes tops and half of that was just looking around. On the other hand when I put the new hammer in my 10/22 that was a much longer process and not so simple. As I have been hearing from everyone on here the new hammer makes a big difference. I am very happy with the improvement.

It does make a big difference. Makes a really good rifle even better. Had a lot of compliments on how much fun my 597 is to shoot.

Installing the hammer isn't too difficult. Replacing the extractor is a little more involved and best done in a large plastic bag. Both are upgrades worth the money.

Actually I had thought about replacing the extractor but this thing runs like a sewing machine. So for the time being I am following the rule of if it aint broke don't fix it. When I experience FTE then I will make the change.

Glad it worked out well for ya Tick.

I still remember holding mine upside down by the trigger and it wouldn't trip from the weight of the 597, unloaded of course. Are you serious??

Wow , my original wasn't nearly that bad, but after hearing everyone talk about how good the mod was well you know.

By the time I read the tutorial I could have been done. Thanks though others here may find it helpful. Simple job and well worth the effort.

Yeah, many video tutorials may take longer to watch than the actual job, BUT they may and often do save you from making an irreversible mistake!

If you add the MCarbo spring kit you can usually get 2 to 2.5 pound triggers. VQ trigger alone usually gets you around 3lbs give or take.

One the extractor, the stock one works fine so your right. Just replace it when you need to.

11 pictures with many duplicates? Seems pretty short to me. Oh well
