The Tack Driving Game

Log in to see fewer ads
The Tack Driving game is a fun way to test your equipment and skills. I've seen the game played by several groups here on RFC, but never with the Savage crowd. I'm not proposing a formal contest, but offering a place to post your targets should you be interested in tack shooting.

+ Use any ammo
+ Shoot at 25 or 50 yards
+ Post a pic of the target
+ One shot per tack
+ Must break inner ring to qualify as driven.
+ Use a round to plug the hole if it's too close to call. Must be in the white.

This is my first submission from 25 yards. I used my MKII FV-SR from a bipod and rear sand bag. Optic is fixed 10X. Ammo is Eley Target.

Here is my best to date target. Twenty tacks driven with my Stevens Model 56 Buckhorn. This is a challenging game and a lot of fun. My goal is to better this at 25yds and do at least as well at 50yds.

Nice target.

It's tougher than it looks, at least that's what I found out when I finally printed a target and gave it a whirl. I'll step it out to 50 when I get better at 25.

This is a great game/target, and (other than spinners) is all I shoot now.

I finally did 22 tacks with my CZ455 .17HMR and 20 tacks with my CZ455 .22LR.

Now I'll have to get out there with my Savage 93R17 and see if my recent luck holds. For me, it really teaches careful trigger control and sustained attention, particularly as compared to 3 shot "groups."

This game is quite addicting, and yes it does force breathing and trigger control. It also helped me block out the surrounding shooters and noise. I actually learned to concentrate and I shot my best target so far when the range was busy.

This looks interesting and I'll be giving it a try.

Dumb question, but why are the tacks scaled for distance?

I think they're meant to be 1 MOA targets - 0.25" @ 25 yards, 0.5" @ 50 yards, and 1" @ 100 yards.

<trying to be funny - ignore me>
I googled MOA tacks, and they're only sold in inches, apparently..
</trying to be funny>

When I get my scoped gun back, I'll have to try this. Looks fun.

I've started doing the same thing @ 80 yds hanging a disc blade with a 3/4" sq hole on a drywall screw. if no "ding" you've hit inside & it's point but you automaticlly win when you drive the drywall screw & the disc blade falls. It's a blast!

I have a short 25 yard rimfire range setup on my property as I don't have much more room than that. I love shooting tacks at 25 yards and wondered what the average score on 25 tacks is? I have never gotten 25 I must admit, but 21 or 22 is a good day for me. What are others average scores?

Out today with the Win52, scoped and bipoded. No rear bag, just my shoulder, and amazing to watch my heart beat played out in the cross-hairs... Had to use a little feedback to settle it down, then time it just so. Still only 18/25, but I can live with that - perfect excuse tpo practice more.

The RSO looked at me strangely and said "One of those 'No Excuses' targets?"

Sho'nuff....
